I talked to the lady incharge of the songs for the wedding and she asked if I was leaving flowers at the blessed mother and I said yes. She gave me the song they would use for that. Now I don't really understand what I said yes to and I have never seen this done during a wedding. Anyone know anything about this???

Yeah it's a bouquet that at some point during the mass your and your new husband place the flowers by the statue of Mary. I've seen it done at weddings a few times. My florist is making me a special bouquet for that.

Re: OK girls getting married in a church???
Our florist asked us about this, but we don't want to do it. We're not having a mass (just a ceremony) since FH's family isn't Catholic... but it just wasn't something I wanted to do.
You don't HAVE to do it. If you don't want to, just call back and say you've changed your mind or you weren't sure what she was talking about and actually do not want to do it. It shouldn't be a big deal. I've never been to a wedding where this was done either, and I've been to a LOT of Catholic weddings.

In all honesty, I've been to PLENTY of Catholic weddings (entire family is Catholic) and I've never seen it done.

i think we just never noticed lol bc i said the same thing...i don't think its something that is made into a big deal...My florist showed me pics and the church was given the Bok and just put on a table. Also an alternative to that is to give roses out, so maybe others have chosen that. But FH's mother is very religious so were going to do this lol

It is a small thing of flowers that you place in front of Mary's statue. The priest will announce that you are doing that. You walk over put them on the statue and say a quick prayer. That's it. The whole process takes about 1 minute.

Same here. I'm the youngest in my generation in my extended family and the last to get married. EVERYONE except my brother had their wedding in a catholic church. NONE of them (I've asked) did the Blessed Mother bouquet thing.
There's nothing wrong with doing it, but it's not mandatory at all... at least not in my church. Do what you want.

I only saw it at one wedding.... and it was at an odd time (after the mass, and outside of the church by a large outdoor statue of Mary...)
we're not doing it...

Re: OK girls getting married in a church???
It is done at Catholic weddings especially Latin weddings (I think that is where it began because of the devotion to Mary). You don't have to do it especially if you don't understand the reasoning behind it or if you don't care about it. The reason why flowers are brought to the Virgin Mary is to show respect to her and while you and your husband are at the statue you pray that she guides you and helps you within your marriage and as a future mother.
She along with Joseph and Jesus are the Holy Family and you pray that your marriage be filled with love, caring, understanding and compassion as was within their family.
It can be done after the Offering has been brought up to the Altar or after you and those at the Mass have recieved Communion. Its best to do it after Communion so all have the chance to pray that She helps you in your marriage.

yes it is more about the prayer then the actual flowers - it is a beautiful tradition!
