I have sat here all day, paid the bills, went food shopping and there is still a looming question of WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO????? So my question is, what does everyone do to save money on things like groceries or other daily/weekle items. I really thing I could be cutting back more.

Wow, I was looking at my posts, and I'm not crying poverty, like it looks, just need to cut back. Yeah, we take our dorky little brown paper bag lunches, too Sadly, we also cut our chicken up and freeze it separately so we don't waste it. I feel like my grandparents who split hamburgers. haha.

being tha FH is a cook, he usually brings something home for dinner every night he works, and I bring the leftovers for lunch the next morning! He works at Cheesecake Factory in Providence, RI, and the portions are HUGE!

Are you a member at Costco or BJ's. We save a ton of money by buying everything in bulk. We only buy milk & bread on a weekly basis. Also, I try to withdraw money only once a week and make sure the money lasts.

If you figure it out let me know! Dude- I am terrible at this.. I never cut coupons- I don't even know what newspaper to buy to FIND coupons.. I do try to make lunch & dinner as much as possible though. I always clean my own house instead of having a house keeper- I wash dress shirts myself & iron them instead of laundering them. And I NEVER EVER spend change... If you do that you save $500 a year.

We're careful about what we spend on food. I'm into organic and I'm veg, so that stuff could get pricey if I let it. But I don't. I don't buy a lot of pre-made things or boxed foods, they are expensive and aren't healthy. I make a ton of stuff from scratch...it may take an extra 15 minutes, but it's worth it.

Sassy,
Your comment about a housekeeper was funny. You EVEN clean your own house? Am I just totally out of the loop-who has housecleaners? I'm certainly not poor, but we wouldn't even think of that!

Re: Ok Girls, tell me your secrets......
ACTUALLY- my mother always made my sister and I clean the house when we were little so that we would 'realize the importance of having a cleaning lady some day'. Ha! She can pay for it then!

99% of what I buy at the grocery store is the generic brand (such as Pathmark brand napkins etc). Some things can't be replaced by the generic, but it's basically the same. That saves a lot.

Re: Ok Girls, tell me your secrets......
You don't understand- all of my friends have cleaning ladies- they look at me with 9 heads that I clean my own house believe me- I don't get it either,
Oh- and we do our own laundry- we don't drop it off.

Re: Ok Girls, tell me your secrets......
You mean you didn't get a cleaning lady at your shower???? I got one...her body was an ironing board, her head was a mop, her arms were my wooden spoons and pot holders, she even wears an apron!! I must be one lucky lady!!!!
when we were both making a lot of money...we had someone come into clean a few times...and we NEVER did our own laundry...no of course things are different...and we clean and wash ourselves...
but it was out of total laziness

Re: Ok Girls, tell me your secrets......
Erica, I remember those days. Drop off the laundry and it gets cleaned and folded while you're at work.
These days, Al still has someone doing the laundry and cleaning the house and cooking dinner - ME! But its only fair and my way of contributing, since I've got the free time and he's the only one bringing home a paycheck at the moment...
