Ok girls, I need your help. So I went to show my FMIL and FSIL the two dresses I was choosing between and I definitely picked THE ONE! So that is good news. Also other good news, my FSIL who I thought was going to be very difficult about the BM dress, actually loved my favorite one so that worked out great. So while the three of us were in the dressing room FMIL mentioned that she doesn't want to wear a long gown to a BLACK TIE OPTIONAL WINTER WEDDING?!?!?! Is this just me or is the Mother of the Groom wearing a short dress extremely inappropriate?!?! Help me out here. Both myself and my FSIL, who is her daughter, said what are you crazy it will be February and you will freeze. Forget about the fact that I feel it is a bit inappropriate. What do you think?!?!?!

while you are justified in your reaction to her choice, remember how important it is to choose your battles w/ in-laws. maybe this is just a passing thought, and in the year between now and the wedding, she'll decide against freezing to death in a cocktail dress.

Hmmm I think it's odd she wouldn't want to wear a gown. Both my mother and FMIL are getting these AMAZING gowns. I would think she would want to stand out being that it's her sons wedding. Is she dead set on a short dress?? Did you tell FH??

you cant really tell your FMIL what to wear... if it was me I would def be annoyed but not make a big deal out of it...in the end shes the one who will look funny....

I would let her go for the short gown and let her freeze her butt off and feel awkward when she sees the rest of the family so dressed up in gowns. She will look too underdressed for the groom's mother

Hahaha you girls are totally right! I feel she will look funny too. I did tell FH and he was like ***?? So he showed her some pics of some long gowns that he would like her to try sometime soon and she said she liked them and she would be willing to try them on and that they were pretty. So that is a step in the right direction!! Hopefully it will all work out and she will decided not to go short. Also she is in the one who will look foolish and be freezing. I think a lot of it is that she is OOT and has no idea what a 'NY wedding' is. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I am not gonna make a big issue out of it, just pray it works out!

I agree with you one this one. But in the end...is it worth an argument with her?? Is she really hurting you in any way? In the end she is the one who is going to look like a moron...and freeze!

I think not worth the argument from you. If she starts telling other people they'll tell her it is odd and if not, she'll be the one to stand out.
Good thing about FSIL, let the daughter do the dirty work!
