What I was trying to say was DH just got 'the' letter we have been waiting for.....
From the Suffolk County Police Dept. Not that I am thrilled today, being what happened last night.
But we have been waiting months for this and we were just about ready to give up hope.
I think I almost fell off my chair. But now I am starting to get nervous. What if he passes all the physicals and makes it. After what happened last night.......
Obviously this is something, you and your DH have been wanting. Congrats to you!!!

That is awesome!!!!! That is my FH's dream. Just go to the website and it tells you all the physical requirements for his age and make sure he starts training! He'll do great!
Best of luck to him!

Denise, welcome to the sisterhood, sister. I have a saying 'You're either a cop's wife or you aren't.' It takes a very special woman to marry a cop (or be married to one) and take on all the attendant risks. I pray a lot and I have a lot of faith in the ability and training of the not only FH but men around FH to take care of him in dangerous situations.
Pray, love him, support him, and enjoy the dough you're gonna be rolling in in a few years! FH will be jealous when I tell him!

Re: Ok, I can't type I am freaking:
Welcome to the family! I don't know if you've seen this, but it's what I read when I'm having a tough day as 'A Cop's Wife'...
A cop's wife is a woman who is married to a man who is 'married' to his job, his partner and his badge. A cop's wife can usually be found cooking breakfast at midnight, picking up his uniforms at the cleaners and spending nights alone.
A cop's wife must be a good listener, not questioning him. She must be understanding when he goes out for a beer with his buddies, doesn't feel like taking her to the movies, or has an exam to study for.
A cop's wife must live with shift work, lonely holidays, bad jokes, ulcers and alcohol, bulletproof vests and fixed incomes. She is used to words like rape, robbery, assault and child abuse. She is familiar with night school, stakeouts, overtime and being on her own.
Most women are not born or raised to be a cop's wife; it is something that they have chosen to do. Some can and others cannot. She will spend each day learning, listening to and loving a man that few people respect and most others often hate.
A cop's wife makes beds, breakfasts and love to a man who spends more time with junkies, hookers, informants, pimps and partners than he does with her. She attends dinners, meetings and sometimes funerals.
A cop's wife watches the man she loves grow old before his time, watches him become cold and unfeeling, but she will remain his friend, wife and lover. She will always be these things to him, but she also knows that he will always be first, A Cop.
When a cop's wife kisses him as he leaves for work, she will make a silent wish that he will return to her. And every time there is a knock at the door, she will pray that it is not the Chief of Police and her husband's partner coming to say kind things about her husband, how brave he was, how dedicated he was.
Being a cop's wife means lots of trust, love and worry, but when he says 'I love you', it makes it all worthwhile.

Jenn you made me cry. My DH is a police department paramedic on LI and you could substitute his profession for most of what you said. They are quite similar. It takes a special woman to understand the very special men(and women) who put their lives on the line every day in the service of others.

You are all very special women. It takes a lot to be a cop's wife. My father recently retired from NYPD so I know how tough it can be. I give you all a lot of credit. Not everyone can do it, so you should be proud of yourselves and your husbands. Have faith in their training & that God is watching over them.
Congratulations!

Re: Ok, I can't type I am freaking:
Ok, now I am really starting to rethink DH doing this. Would you believe that even though he wants this, he is worried about me and how I will be able to deal with it, if not, he doesn't want to do it.
What do I do? I am scared ****less of god forbid losing him. I am scared of the lonely nights and holidays.
On the other hand, this is what we both wanted all along and prayed for each day the mailman came. Now that it could be reality, I am envisioning the kind of life I would have (thanks, Jennrenee!) :)
So, girls, you have always been there for me. Why can't I stop worrying and what do we do?

P.S. This is for Suffolk County, do you girls think I will be as affected as the NYC Police (who really risk their lives day in/out). No offense to LI cops, but they do have it better in my opinion.

Re: Ok, I can't type I am freaking:
I think you need to speak with other cop wives. I think it is a very scary to consider being a cop's wife BUT so many cops go home every day safe and sound so maybe there are some words of wisdom that those women can give you.
