Ok, I can't type I am freaking:

Original post by DeniseMang

What I was trying to say was DH just got 'the' letter we have been waiting for.....

From the Suffolk County Police Dept. Not that I am thrilled today, being what happened last night.

But we have been waiting months for this and we were just about ready to give up hope.

I think I almost fell off my chair. But now I am starting to get nervous. What if he passes all the physicals and makes it. After what happened last night.......

Denise, while we can give you all the advice in the world, the only thing that matters is your gut feeling, and your DH's. I'd love to be able to calm you and say that it's 'safer' being a LI cop (which it may be, statistic-wise), but in any service profession anything can happen. You have to have faith in god (or whoever you chose to put your faith in ) and keep a positive outlook. That's really it.

Much love to you both as you mull this over.

Tammy ~ a friend (another cop's wife) gave me that poem when Patrick and I got engaged. It's priceless, isn't it??

Denise - congrats to you and DH.

JennRenee - how true that poem is as we know. That's the first time I have seen it, it's beautiful!

Thanks girls. Well, I think he is going to go give it a shot [no pun intended :)] . We will leave it in God's hands. There are so many tests he will still need to pass, so who knows.

The irony of this is, when he took the test in 1999, he really didn't have a career. Well in the last 3 years he has become very successful in the IT field. We actually stopped checking the mail recently and concentrated on his job now and gave up on the idea. Then the letter comes. What irony, right. So now, not only is it a matter of safety, now we (well mostly he) has to decide where he wants his future to lie. He has so mcuh education and training behind him now and has come so far in just the last year alone, I feel like if he does this, he is just turning his back on all that he has accomplished.

Good luck with whatever you and FH decide to move forward with. My FH is not a cop, but BM is. I know it's not the same, but I pray every day for our best friend. He really is a brother to my FH. He is our family.

As far as choosing b/t which path to choose, FH has to do what feels right for him. My FH went back to school, quit his job etc.. to start something new. It was hard, but it's what makes him happy. I'm sure you'll support him in no matter what it is. Don't look at it as a wasted time, but a good background.

Awe thank you, you are right about not looking at it as a waste of time, but as a good background! And, yes, I will definitely support any decision he makes! Thank you, all your girls, for you words of wisdom and support. You gals always make me feel better. Lot's of love to you all!

Denise ... good luck to you & DH as you work through what may amount to be a difficult but rewarding time for you both. There are never any garauntee's in life ... about anything. But if this is what he truly wants to do with his life, then he should do it. Hugs to you both!
