DEAR ABBY: I am writing because my 12-year-old daughter, 'Dorothy,' is pregnant for the second time. Due to our religion, we do not believe in birth control or abortion. We kept the first baby, but we're afraid if we keep the second, Dorothy will continue to have premarital sex. Should we abort this one or let her have this baby, too? DEAR CONCERNED: Whether your 12-year-old daughter should carry her second child to term is not a decision I can, or should, make for you. Because of her tender age, there could be medical risks involved. Take your cues from her OB/GYN.

It should be clear by now that your daughter is, and will continue to be, sexually active. Unless you intend to keep her under lock and key, she MUST be educated about sexually transmitted diseases and birth control. Since you consider using birth control a sin, please consider that it's a bigger sin to bring children into this world if you cannot educate and support them emotionally and financially.

P.S. You haven't mentioned how old the father(s) of these babies are. If they are more than four years older than Dorothy, she could be a victim of statutory rape, and you should notify the police.



12 years old and baby #2! Are you kidding me. This person thinks that birth control is a sin but abortion is fine! Sometimes I just understand people! I feel like Regis and yelling- WHERE DO THEY FIND THESE PEOPLE???

What is the matter with these people? I cannot believe that they think that birth control is a sin but its ok to have their 12 year old child bring a child into this world and now be pregnant with a second....If her parents keep letting her do this unprotected, then she should have a football team by the time she turns 14.

I don't have words to describe how this makes me feel...but this is partly why I have issues with religion...I think its a sin that they allowed a 12 year old to have a baby in the first place. Then again she was probably only 11 then... JMHO

Why would religious people consult Dear Abby on an issue like this?? Why would anyone?

I agree why would a religiously devout go to Dear Abby? How could such a family lose complete control of their 10 year old daughter?

I say 10 because if this is her SECOND then for at least 9 months of her life she has already been pregnant making her at least 11 and I'll guess 10 only to give a few months for this pregnancy.

She doesn't seem 'mad' about this just 'forlorn'. Seems too easy for me. I think it's a total fake.

I got it from the website that I read Dear Abby on everyday, so it is not a farce on my part. Whether these people are lying or not- it is still truly sick!

I never thought Dear Abby was making it up or your source. I think the person who sent IN the letter is BS.
