Wacky I agree...
I was just having this discussion with my friend...i said those feminist rights women f*ed it up for the future generations! LOL I would have been happy to stay home LOL!
*I am not looking for an argument here, I meant that with a sense of humor!
I am going to pleasantly disagree!! ( I quoted you...but I am saying this to EVERYONE)
many women CAN still stay home today...its just that you/we live in one of the most expensive places in the WORLD!!!! and thats inflation...not the womans movement...
I understand the desire to want to stay home and rasie a family...and I think thats great...(talk to phyl about it on the parenting board though...) but don't blame one the movement that allowed you to take BCP...wear pants...have a managerial position...go to college...have financial independence...make personal choices over your body - not only abortion...but surgery procedures and treatment options

that is great that you all want to stay home....given the chance I would too, but the woman thorughout history were fighting for our rights as woman to get equal pay, the right to vote, the right to own land, and the rights to our own bodies.
To say that the feminists 'f*cked it up' for future generations is a little extreme. We have them to thank now that we CAN work in banking, finance, or construction if we so desire.
I would have burned my bra or march with the suffergettes in a heartbeat, given the chance.

I am with you, Wacky! The feminist movement gave some, but took some as well!
Now everyone is 'equal', man are rude and are afraid to be chivalrous for fear of being accused of sexual harassment, and we have to go back to work after only 12 weeks of maternity leave!
Now how are thing better, you tell me?
Oh, and no way would I have burned my bras! I like my bras! The serve me well and hold everything in it's place!

Ok, so I agree with you too! I guess I’m much more on the fence about this issue than I originally thought. Because as much as I feel I’d enjoy being a stay at home mom, the reality is:
1) Who knows if it will be something that’s financially possible? 2) I would not have given up the opportunity to get higher education 3) I like being able to take birth control, live with my FH before marriage, etc
I think the solution is to win lotto! That way you can stay home, children or not!
Finding a job that fulfilled me would probably help too…

I wouldn't burn my bra (I like my bras), and I am happy being a woman, but I also enjoy working and would strongly prefer to work at my job rather than be a SAHM. I just don't think its for me. I am not all that domesticated.
I'm very much the same. But I'd burn my old bras

I wouldn't have - because my boobies are too big!! Seriously, I wouldn't mind being able to afford to stay home with the kids while hubby works!!
Re: Ok- I know Im going to get in trouble, But Who wouldnt of burned their bras during the womens movement
my DH would love to stay home and not work...but that doesn't mean that his rights have anything to do with it
he will light his undies on fire for us women!!!

Can't burn my bra. The girls need the support! I would love to stay home once we have kids. Sadly I make more then DH so that is not possible. Also we would never be able to have a house or clothes or live on Long Island on one salary.

I will always be a supporter of various feminist causes. And I'm glad and grateful to have the opportunity to work in whatever field I choose. Having said that, I'm a fundamentally LAZY person and I'm happiest when I'm not working! Given the unpleasant and/or mind-numbingly dull aspect of many of the jobs available in today's world, I'm sure I'm not alone in this opinion!

Lisa that is why I said that I was saying it with a sense of humor - not trying to be extreme!

Definitely would have burned my bras. I like having choices and I am thankful to all the women who came before me who fought for women like us to have those choices.

Oddly enough, I don't consider myself a feminist.
Not many women do ...the 'F word' has such a negative connotation in our society even among women, sadly.

Re: Ok- I know Im going to get in trouble, But Who wouldnt of burned their bras during the womens movement
Life without a bra is PAINFUL.
I'd like having the choice, too, but I don't really feel that I *have* a choice. If I don't work, we can't pay rent.
And we don't have much of a choice as to where we live either, because the job market isn't that great right now, and FH couldn't find a job anywhere else.
I don't think that this was caused by woman's lib, I just think that it stinks when you're a young couple trying to start out.
