OK i think this is a first???

So last nite FH tells me that his godfather left a message that because he has a 7:00 am flight the morning after our wedding, he would like to attend the ceremony and cocktail hour only (we're getting married at the hall). How do i do this? What if they decide to stay after the cocktail hour - isn't that weird? I can see wanting to attend the ceremony but cocktail hour too??? The ceremony is at 6:30 pm and they only live 15 minutes away??? what do we do?

I wouldn't count them in the headcount when you give the number to your hall b/c they do not require seats. If they do end up wanting to stay, it's a lot easier to just add seats somewhere, than having to pay for them NOT to stay for the reception.

We had invited a few guests to the CH only b/c our guestlist was so tight.

I always thought it was rude to only invite people to the cocktail hour and then make them leave when the reception begins.

my hall sounds pretty strict about squeezing people in last minute - i'd like to avoid that scene if possible. i guess i'll just add them to the head count if i don't make my minumum. jeesh - thanks

I think once he got there and was at the CH with everyone there, he might wind up staying even for just an hour or so. See if you can ask him to stay - just say 'Well, your flight's at seven, can you at least stay for dinner?' Maybe if your close to him you can jokingly say 'Well, I'll have to pay for your dinner either way so just stay and eat' but of course I would only recommend that if you are close to him

Plenty of brides have done this, including me. I invited friends for the ceremony and the cocktail hour b/c we had no more room for the reception.

As far as it being rude, I personally think it's an honor to be invited to witness in the ceremony of a marriage, as that's the most important part of a wedding.

I've never even met him. I'm going to look at the positive side of it and figure he wants to make the effort to see us get married.

hmmm - remember - we as brides may think everything about our wedding is an honor and all should be grateful to witness such a wonderful act, but remember that regular guests get offended pretty easily - so I would be careful to keep ther feelings into consideration - lots of personalities out there!

Let him come. But, don't add him into the head count. If he decides to stay for dinner, the hall will be able to make room for him (I'm sure you'll have a no-show, or even if you don't, they'll be able to fit him in)

I would not add him into the head count. If he decides to stay, you can add him onto a table that day. The halls are more than happy to take your money, but they will not give it back to you.

No need to be rude and roll your eyes at me, and other brides who have invited guests to attend their ceremony and only the CH w/out the reception.

Allow me to clarify:
After we received all our responses from our guests, we realized there were friends (acquaintances really) that we wanted to have share in our special day. This included many of the ladies on this site that I felt a connection with, but had not actually met. So, I invited ladies to attend our ceremony and the cocktail hour and not a single person was insulted. I also invited sorority sisters that I wasn't as close to under the same conditions.

No, you do not have to, as the hall does not take a headcount at the cocktail hour.

LOL - I just have to say - its so funny when we see these icons and take it as actual 'tude'

As if the person were actually rolling their eyes!

don't flame me for this - you just have to see the humor in this...

I'm not really rolling on the floor - I swear!!!

(real hug though - even if I knock my computer over!)

Not for nothing but there is a change that some people might not show...we had 5 people not show up, so I would not ad him in the head count and if he needs to be add add him in, if you have a no show he can take there place. I would not overly concern your slef with that
