So last nite FH tells me that his godfather left a message that because he has a 7:00 am flight the morning after our wedding, he would like to attend the ceremony and cocktail hour only (we're getting married at the hall). How do i do this? What if they decide to stay after the cocktail hour - isn't that weird? I can see wanting to attend the ceremony but cocktail hour too??? The ceremony is at 6:30 pm and they only live 15 minutes away??? what do we do?

LOL - I just have to say - its so funny when we see these icons and take it as actual 'tude'
As if the person were actually rolling their eyes!
don't flame me for this - you just have to see the humor in this...
I'm not really rolling on the floor - I swear!!!
(real hug though - even if I knock my computer over!)
C'mon Liza, do you actually expect me to believe that you're not really rolling on the floor when I know you'll do it at the drop of a hat?
oh, wait, sorry you're right, it's only when a certain song plays!

I always thought it was rude to only invite people to the cocktail hour and then make them leave when the reception begins.
I agree but it is definitely a personal decision

Plenty of brides have done this, including me. I invited friends for the ceremony and the cocktail hour b/c we had no more room for the reception.
As far as it being rude, I personally think it's an honor to be invited to witness in the ceremony of a marriage, as that's the most important part of a wedding.
yeah, but you invited them to the cocktail hour. so what after that you were like, see ya, you gotta get outta here?
No need to be rude and roll your eyes at me, and other brides who have invited guests to attend their ceremony and only the CH w/out the reception.
Allow me to clarify: After we received all our responses from our guests, we realized there were friends (acquaintances really) that we wanted to have share in our special day. This included many of the ladies on this site that I felt a connection with, but had not actually met. So, I invited ladies to attend our ceremony and the cocktail hour and not a single person was insulted. I also invited sorority sisters that I wasn't as close to under the same conditions.
Oh dear me...I wasn't rolling my eyes...I was simulating a guest being told to leave. I would never roll my eyes to a stranger via the internet.

I apologize for the miscommunication then.

I agree to not put them in the head count. If they decide to stay, then you can add them, so bring extra money. Also, decide what table you could squeeze them, if it were to happen. You don't want to have to think on your wedding day.
You could have no-shows too, so it'll be easy to slide them in. Sad but true. We had 4 no-shows. Well, really 2 no-shows and the other 2 called the night before the wedding, but the final count was already in.
I was just at a wedding this weekend where a guest decided to bring someone last minute. The hall quickly added a chair and place setting as we were coming into the room. I noticed, because I just got married, but no one else did.
I've never heard of a place doing a head count during cocktail hour.

i think the rude part is being invited to the cocktail hour and not the reception, it should be an honor to be invited to the ceremony and being invited to just that is okay

Re: OK i think this is a first???
First I would try to see if he can stay for dinner, but if he insist on jsut the cocktail hr. then I wouldnt include him in the count sicn eits not defiante. My ssiter had last minute cancellations and 2 ppl sya they are comign the day before, so it might balance out.
As far as inviting some ppl to the cocktail hr... I know I couldnt get away with that with my latin folks. Party is the best part... As for me an hour is not enough time for me to get drunk And yes I am reallign rolling on the floor... I do think I am that amusing
