ok if you feel like helping me come on in...(long)

Now I have a situation that I have been dealing with for over a year and it is so silly yet so annoying so please give advice.
So my fh and i live together and we have an english bulldog. We treat him like a kid and we are very attached to him. So he works until 6 everyday and i woulk until 6 m,w,f and go to school until 2 on tuesdays. So we make an effort to stay home with him at night during the week since he is alone about 11 hours m-f. Everyone gives me crap about this! They say im crazy for not wanting to go out to be with a dog and the dog is controlling my life and i am so sick of it! Can you believe people actually fight with me on this. My question is and i wont take offense, is it so qwrong to stay with the dog instead of coming home from work and leaving him again to go hang out and sepnd money that i should be saving for a wedding!! Sorry needed to vent

hi hun i can so relate to ur problem, when i lived with my ex we actually had to give up our dog b/c she just needed to much time and affection and we could not give it to her, it was unfair to her and to us for having to b there 24/7. i kno u sooo love ur dog and u wanna b there as much as u can and that u love it like a baby yet sometimes u gotta put some perspective into it and say ok it is just a dog..maybe try and make it like every other week u go out with ur friends so they dont feel like ur choosing ur dog over going out..if pple have a problem with it, oh well too bad for them but also u can maybe have pple over to ur house so u can b with friends and ur doggie, sorry this isnt very helpful but heres a

no way trust me ur not the only one, i kno pple who treat there dogs like a child no joke! i can totally see where ur coming from plus to b honest a dog is a huge responisiblity and ok maybe its not a child but u need to treat it like a living breathing thing, its not a friggen rock ya know. pple need to b understanding, if its not that, they would complain about something else..and just think at least ur dog doesnt talk back lol

hrmm
You asked for an honest opinion so here I go.

I love our cat. It's pretty much a center of our life. We talk about him when we aren't home and buy him gifts if we travel. But the bottom line is... it's a cat.

I'm not saying you're wrong but it wouldn't be me doing what you are. Although being that I paid for my own wedding myself, I can total validate the saving money part.

Sooner or later however, the dog can not be a center of your lives. A child will come or a move may happen.

I think it's sweet you want to spend time with your dog but I also think you need to go out every now and then. Sometimes you just need friends. But if *I* were your friend I'd come see YOU with the dog! heh

Just my two cents.

I have an African Gray Parrot that is like my child. Have to make sure the lights are on if I am going to be gone all day...But I would not not go out because I had to spend time with him. I feel bad if I come home and go right back out again but he will get over it.

Will your dog be spiteful and destroy something if you leave him alone too much?

When I worked in the city, I did the same exact thing. My friends would get SO mad at me bc I stopped going to happy hour. They didn't get it. My dogs have a dog door and we leave food out for them, so I really COULD have left them, but the guilt got to me. I'm so happy there are more dog mommies out there like me. You ARE normal, at least to me!

Re: ok if you feel like helping me come on in...(long)*updated with real problem*

ok heres whats happening. The main problem i have is with my best friend. Se lives in long island and i am in queens. She gets mad at me a lot because i do not go out with her all the time but here is my view. I have a dog that i am responsible for, a wedding i am planning and a fh which whom i live with and we make decisions together, She lives with her parents and her boyfriend goes with whatever she says. She likes to go to movies during the week when FH and I have work the next deay. Problem is that she wants to go to the movies by her house which is a 30 min drive for us and she likes late movies and we would't get home until midnight! This is a problem for us and she gets upset. Other times she will want to go out to bars on firday night and if FH is tired or not in tthe mood i am not going to force him to go and she gets upset! This happens at least once a week and it drives me crazy. Tonight she is upset because i am not going out on 'the biggest night of the year' but i dont want to spend the money! And besides last year we drove all the way to LI to go out with them and we couldnt even get into anyplace b.c it was sooooo crowded so we ended up at a diner.
