It is possible. What exactly happen to your computer? You need to bring your hard drive to someone that knows how to fix computers, and possibly they can retrieve the pics and put them on a disc for you.

it depends which part went boom inside the pc

chance are...the motherboard (main peice that everything is connected to) and power supply went...i'm thinking more the power supply. There is a 50/50 chance..there was a power surge or something and it could of affected the hard drive (where your pictuers are) if you like, i can help ya retreive

That doesn't sound good.

Do you perhaps have more than one computer in your house (an old one should work just fine too)? If you do, you can try taking the hard drive out of the broken computer and put it in the other one. It isn't that hard - just unscrew and unplug it from the one - then look at the back - there should be 8 little pins in two rows of 4. Two of those pins should have a little jumper on them (it looks like a tiny plastic rectangle that connects two pins) - that jumper needs to be set to 'slave' - look around those pins on the hard drive itself - there should be a little chart where it tells you which pins are which - your choices will probably be m (where the jumper is now), s (slave, where you should put the jumper) and maybe c (cable select, ignore it). Move the jumper so it covers the two pins that are under the 's' part. Then just plug the drive into your other/old computer (plug in the big wide plug and a power plug - it doesn't matter which power cable you use). Your computer should recognize the drive as a second hard drive.

It may be the power supply. Is it a Compaq or a HP? They are known for blowing up their power supplies. If it is that, you will not lose your pictures. You just need to repace the power supply. That is very easy.
