OK Ladies Help me define Corp. Business Casual

Since we have had a number of 'What Not Wear' threads here I figured I would get some unbiased opinions. How do you feel about the following clothing in a corporate office?

open toed shoes,
spaghetti straps,
halter tops
Capris
Skorts

Thanks for your opinion.

Ok, here is my opinion.....

Open Toed Shoes.....Fine to wear
Spaghetti Stapes....I don't think appropriate, but depends on what it is.
Halter Tops....again prob not appropriate, but certain blouses may be acceptible
Capris....yes
Skorts...I don't think these fly in any setting.

Again, just my opinion....

I work in advertising and we are laid back in our attire.

I do wear capris and open toed sandals, but I would not wear shorts or halter tops, or any type of flesh baring tops- to me that is a no- no.

Though the rules of dress are more relaxed now- I still think you should have some boundaries.

Capris - if they are more like cropped pants, I think it's fine. But capris that are barely pass your knees are borderline and should be saved for friday. (they remind me of shorts).

Open toe shoes - absolutely fine.

A halter blouse with a collar is fine but not a strappy halter top.

Spaghetti straps - not really unless it was on a sundress or part of a twin set and it was really warm in the office. But think tank style or sleeveless is fine by me.

Skorts - No, they are fine from the front, but from the back they are still shorts and I think that's too casual.

I agree with everyone.

Open toe shoes- yes
Spaghetti straps-no (if you have a spaghetti strap top you want to wear, where a cardigan over it)
Capris-yes (they are pants that cover a lot of your body, why not?)
Skorts-No

If you have big boobs are you allowed to say yes to certain items.
Bc I know if I wore a halter top I don't wear a bra and I know NOT a **** guy would get work done all day..
I think it all depends on how your body looks!

MSCJLK - what do you mean no hose from May 31st to October? They don't want you to wear pantyhose? That makes no sense to me. I would think that wearing skirts or dresses with NO pantyhose is much less professional than wearing the hose. Even though I hate wearing pantyhose at all.

I would say that for a very corporate office, all of the things mentioned are a NO.

I think business casual, for a very corporate place (most banks, law firms) means:

long pants
skirts no shorter than just above the knee
closed toe shoes, mules NOT ok

For other offices:
Flip-flops - never ok
sneakers - never ok

I work for an investment bank and we are business casual all year round and everything on that list would be a no.

On friday's though it is a little more casual and I do wear capri's and open toes, unless we have a meeting scheduled.

This varies according to the corporate environment, but for a more conservative place:

open toed shoes- not really
spaghetti straps- no
halter tops-no
Capris- only the longer variety
Skorts-no

In a more relaxed environment I think open toe shoes are fine.

I usually try to emulate what the female bosses do since i'm still climbing the ladder.

Oh yeah, I say no to halters too. Unless you have a cardigan over it.

I agree. I work in a school and the paraprofessionals are very casual. My principal always makes sure they know her rule: 'The bottoms of your tops must touch the tops of your bottoms'. I think that's a good rule too.

Of course business casual is defined differently depending on your company's environment but her is my opinion (I am in a company that is business attrie m-t and only business casual on f. I have also worked in very large corporate companies as well.)

open toed shoes - ok - as long as they aren't casual like slides and flip flops.

spaghetti straps and halter tops - never unless covered but a cardigan or blazer (and kept covered)

Capris - long ones only

Skorts - never

I strongly disagree on the comment it all depends on your body. I do not think you should be going to work to show off you body. You can be stylish without doing so and still be professional. I think I have a fine figure but I do not ever go to work to show it off. I impress with my professionalism and mind/brain. Often people tell me that I should wear shorter and tighter skirts to skow off my long legs and butt - but I never would compromise my professionalism. I work in a corporate environment and although there are some that do dress like that - I do not and my success here has proven my point.

Although I do get jealous of those in very relaxed environments that get to wear jeans and stuff! I hate wearing suits!

I also work in advertising and it is super casual....but some people go too far. I have seen girls here wear mini skirts with tube tops and flip flops!

open toed shoes - yes
spaghetti straps - i don't think so
halter tops - NO
Capris - yes
Skorts
-never! we aren't living in 1983!!
