Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

Original post by Toucan311

Ok, so maybe its not really controversial, but I'm sure some of you have an opinion on it.

A girl that I work with is a hardcore athiest. She doesnt believe in God, Jesus, etc. She is NOT agnostic, she believes that there is just NOTHING. Which is totally fine; everyone is entitled to their own belief system. What drives me crazy about this? SHE CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS. Does this irk anyone else?

I had two friends in HS, both of whom had mothers that converted to Judiasm. Both of them had Hanukah bushes, which I can now assume was an attempt by their mothers to integrate a bit of their own religion into it. They both turned out to be whores. One of them wasn't too religious, but the other one - and the bigger whore - was always spouting her religion to everyone! IT seems that often the ppl that are overzealous about telling ppl about their religion, whatever it might be, are usually the ones that are the biggest hypocrites in their REAL life.

Isn't that usually the way with most things. The people that preach the loudest about/against anything are usually the ones with the dirtiest secrets.

I'm still a little bit in shock that a Hanukah bush isnt a real thing.

I'm totally not. For years I honestly thought it was PART of the celebration. I didnt realize that it was something that most Jewish ppl frowned upon.

its not so much that is is frowned upon, but more just that it is completely made up
most people dont have them - its a complete farse

Laura, what will you be celebrating when you're married? I think you mentioned (but I'm not 100% positive) that your FH isnt Jewish.

together we celebrate both but our children will be raised Jewish - FH isnt religious; neither am i but more traditional

I have a friend at work that does the same exact thing.

Re: Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

At first I was surprised at that girl being an atheist and celebrating christmas...but after thinking about it, i'm not anymore...why? Christmas doesn't seem to be focused on religion that much anymore anyway...much of the focus is on other things, things that have absolutely nothing to do with religion, so why not?

Many holidays used to focus on religion (like valentine's day), but now, religion has nothing to do with these holidays...which explains why an atheist would see nothing wrong in celebrating it...

just my two cents
