Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

Re: Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

when i was younger and in school we decorated the classroom for both holidays and sang songs for both....so it seemed like chanukkah was as big as christmas to me - that was the only time i was really exposed to it.... snowflake is right - there is much more attention directed towards christmas than chanukkah when it comes to retail....that is just an observation/opinion

things are closed because MOST of the world celebrates it

i don't actually have any facts, but i'm pretty sure that's very untrue. i think much more of the world are Jewish than Catholic. Not sure, though. Does anyone have #s?

do you really think there are more Jewish people than christian
have you noticed the ONE display of chanukah items in a store as opposed to the AISLES AND AISLES of christmas merchandise??

If you are looking at the aisles and aisles of santas, snowmen, reindeer and gingerbread men, then yes - you have a point. However, as a Catholic, I view these as 'winter' or 'seasonal' items, not 'Christmas'. A true symbol of Christmas to me is a nativity scene, not a penguin in a red hat.

Call it what you want, and I can't speak for all of us, but I doubt you'd find many non-christians of any denomination with santas, snowmen, reindeer and gingerbread men in their houses as decor during the winter.

THANK YOU!!
i understand that christians may not see these items as 'christian or christmas' but Jewish people do not decorate with them - this is why they are not part of the chanukah display!

My friend in HS always had a Hanukah bush. What is that exactly? I've always been curious.
it is BS - that is what it is
it is someone that finds it hard to be jewish and NOT have a tree when most people have them and they are pretty LOL

ETA: I'm sorry, I didn't mean to insult your friend at all. It's just the whole 'hanukkah bush' thing drives me nuts.

So people literally just get a bush and decorate it like a christmas tree??

Im no longer friends w/the girl - she turned out to be a 2 faced backstabbing whore, but that has nothing to do with christmas or hanukah

You know what? I've never actually seen one so i couldn't even tell you what ppl choose to do with it. But I think it's completely assinine (sp?).

2-faced backstabbing whore huh? that story sounds like it could be fun for a whole new post.

Re: Ok lets start talking w/a controversial topic!

I had two friends in HS, both of whom had mothers that converted to Judiasm. Both of them had Hanukah bushes, which I can now assume was an attempt by their mothers to integrate a bit of their own religion into it. They both turned out to be whores. One of them wasn't too religious, but the other one - and the bigger whore - was always spouting her religion to everyone! IT seems that often the ppl that are overzealous about telling ppl about their religion, whatever it might be, are usually the ones that are the biggest hypocrites in their REAL life.
