So I just called up a bridal shop (don't want to say names) to make an appt. for next week to try on dresses. She was very happy to make an appt. for me, asked me my name and number. Then she asks me when my wedding date is. Stupid me not sticking to my plan of lying and saying next year, tells her May 7, 2011. She goes 'well ok, that's like really far in advance' laughs about it, and then continues 'you know that if you happen to find a dress you like, we can't guarantee that it would still be available or we'll even have it, and' blah blah blah. I cut her off and said 'Listen, I already called a few days ago to check that you had a dress in stock that I wanted to try on and my mother wanted me to try on, so I am really just looking to try on this particular dress and to see what styles I like'.
I seriously am very annoyed with this $#%&. Why on God's green earth to you care if I am looking for dresses so far in advance. It's really none of your concern when my wedding date is. I was going to tell her it doesn't matter really whether or not you are going to have the dress later down the line because I am not planning on ordering from them anyways (I already have my salon picked out for when I am going to order my dress). I just need to find places that carry the dresses I want to try on, try them on, and then make my decision and order through my bridal salon.
UGH!!! sorry for the rant.

Ugh!! That is so annoying! In all honesty...your wedding date isn't even that far away! It's a year and 7 months away and don't the majority of people plan a wedding in about a year and a half??? I don't understand why places have to say things like that...don't they realize that they are potentially losing business by reacting that way?? Do you mind FMing me the store who said this to you?

I get so annoyed when people reply with that response. My wedding is July 15, 2011 and people always say to me 'You have two years it's so far ahead to be thinking of flowers and dresses..My response is that it's actually less than two years away and I just like to stay on top of the planning process especially since I'm finishing my masters degree this May. I also want to try and lock in the prices so they will not increase over time..Also, it bothers me when people always say it's so far away or when certain people say 'Why the long engagement?' My response? My FH and I need to pay for it ourselves and save the money... SOO FRUSTRATING!!!

I just went to a bridal place today to look at bridesmaid dresses with my sister.
They gave me that same bullsh*t they gave you when they heard the date.
My wedding is less than a year and a half away.
As someone on here said - most people plan their weddings within a year and a half.
My wedding is in 1 year 4 months - and people are still saying stupid cr*p like that. ughhhh.

It so frustrating and I just wish people would just take a step back for a second and really think how saying something like that might be insulting/offensive/deal-breaker(esp. if I was planning on ordering a dress from there).

i went through that at a bridal show when i 1st got engaged and had roughly 2 years. some vendors literally laughed or said come back when my date was closer.
well once my date got closer and they started to contact me, i asked if they remembered doing that to me, laughed at them and basically told them to f*ck off.
don't use a vendor like that.

my idol. It's so true though. It's these same vendors that are going to haunt me later with phone calls and emails looking for business, which I am certainly not giving them now. Don't worry. I am making a list

I was at a party at my FSIL's house the other night, and I was telling her that I would really like to get most of the planning done before the one year mark, and then just have little detials to do through out the last year. She acted like I was being ridiculous, because places may go out of business, I may change my mind etc.. I don't know why everyone thinks we should be running around like idiots at the last minute trying to pick from what ever vendors happen to be left. I think that it is a great benefit to us that we basically have our pick of which ever vendors we want. We don't have to worry about going with second or third choices based on availability.

that really *****! don't use them!!! Your wedding is not that far away and you have every right to go in and see what you'd like!
I went to a bridal salon and told them my date they told me i had awhile but still let me try on dresses..(then again i did NOT make an apt in advance) and wouldn't you know i found my dress at an awesome price and ordered it right then and there.

You know whats funny... it probably depends on the place you go to or the person you speak with. Because I went to a bridal shop to pick up my bridesmaid dress for my sisters wedding - and I mentioned to them that I was interested in a certain style dress and just wanted to take a peak at it for my wedding. Then I told her the date of my wedding (January 15, 2011), and told her that I planned to wait until early next year to order. She said she wouldnt have me wait too long because the styles change so frequently and things become discontinued so quickly and that if there is a dress that I am in love with now and have to have, I really should have my girls come in and get measured - that way we are assured I can get the dresses I want.
Its like - people - get it together already. If you want my business... and you arent going to refund my deposit regardless, when do you care when I order anything. Give me a break. I am with you girl!

Same thing happened to me, only it was at a RH. They told me they can do fantastic things with weddings 6 months away needless to say that place is not having any business from me.

I've heard all that why so long crap & I am like so over it..I never had that from vendors or bridal stores because i guess like someone said, if you were smart you'd not care when my date was because you want my business!! They all wanted me business the ones I chose I guess haha...I went looking at dresses the week after Christmas when I got engaged & no one gave me a problem but I didn't book the hall til the end of January. Then I ordered my dress in March how insane of me right?? I don't change my mind once I find something I become obsessed with it! It still hasn't come in which is fine but at least its ordered so if it does get discontinued I don't have to worry. I think everyone is different. While people think I am crazy I just don't even care anymore haha I think it's great that we all book things early because as time goes by prices are going up. As long as we choose reputable companies we shouldn't have to worry about them going out of business. I can't believe how fast it has gone so far! it was 2 1/2 years when we got engaged & now it's 1 year 8 months..I am just learning not to talk about it anyone who is going to being me down..well let me scratch that, keep talking about it & be proud of how smart you are & don't let anyone get to you! This is our time no matter how 'far away' it is haha
