O.k. this is a horrible question I know...

Original post by amy&anthony

but I need to know.. I know I cant expect it and I know its not set in stone, I know there are exceptions, but on average...

If I have 175 guests (100 invitations) how much do you think I will get back in cash after the fact? Im thinking I can keep the wedding at about $17,000. I need to know whats going to happen afterwards...

Don't feel like you have to impress them. This is your day...and the advice that everyone has given me is that someone is always going to have something to say! Do it your way!

I heard from friends who have gotten married that they didn't make back half of the money they spent on their weddings. Some people gave more than expected others gave way less than expected.

Basic rule of thumb...never expect to make back what you paid per person...just because you're 'generous' doesn't mean the person next to you is...

I think if you break even you are lucky . . . People give what they can 'afford' not what they think is 'correct'

she said she was getting the basic package...NO EXTRAS...so imo 2000 for NO extras is HIGH!
I got extras and they played at our CH and my DJ was less!

$2,000 I said was for entertainment. Thats ceremony music cocktail hour & reception.

My FH wanted a guitarist for CH, I wanted trumpets for ceremony & DJ for reception...
That may change.... I wish we could just do it in his parents backyard in Beltaire overlooking the ocean, but FH wont ask and they havent offered.

I agree- do what YOU want, not what others will expect. If FH's family had money, would them chipping in be an option? We've come a long way since the bride's family was expected to pay for everything. You shouldn't have to shoulder the expense by yourself.
