Hmmm. Do you get along with Jen? And does your bm get along with everyone else at the table? Maybe she feels weird about not having anyone to talk to if she doesn't know or get along with the other folks that will be at your table. If it is really a big deal to you I would just pull her aside and say that your budget is really tight and while you were more than happy to have John there, there are a number of other folks whose significant other can not attend and it is saving you some $$ when they come solo.

hmmmm HELL NO you did not invite a friend of a friend you invited your friend and her boyfriend of 8 years, she should not just decide to take someone else then.. you should put your foot down and tell her that jen is not invited!!!!

Ok..if her boyfriend is not going..she does not have the right to bring her friend. You are inviting HIM, not HER and seriously..if she's not giving a gift and if her boyfriend is not coming..then she should just go alone.

hmmmmmnnn this is a hard one.
i understand her wanting to bring a friend cuz it is hard to be at a bm in a wedding with no date. but the fact that she cannot contribute monetarily for TWO people kinda sux. Maybe the friend will bring you a gift? also, maybe you can sit them at a different table other than the head table? my bm and gm are sitting at different tables.... hope this helps

I guess I have to let her take her, right? Ugh...

Ummm, NO, you do not have to let your BM bring a 'friend' instead of her boyfriend of 8 years. He is the person who was invited, and either she comes with him or she comes alone!!!!!

Who do these people think they are anyway???? Does anyone NOT planning a wedding have a clue about the time, the effort, the exprense, and the other drama brides have to deal with, without having our FRIENDS (and family) contribute to the darn stress level???????

Frankly I would tell her if she wants to bring her friend she has to pay for her plate!! Maybe then she'll get a clue as to how inappropriate the request is (although if she lurks, she should darn well know it's inappropriate).

I would tell her exactly that you understand its hard times and don't expect a gift but if John can't go than maybe she could go by herself.

IF SHE IS NOT PAYING A GIFT FINE, BUT DO NOT BRING A FREIND OF A FREIND TOO ANDNOT GIVE A THING... I SAY SPEAK TO HER.

ummmm, NO! the invite is addressed to 'John' NOT 'fill in friend in case John is busy'. And it's definitely rude since she's already told you she's not giving you a gift! Just tell her you would feel more comfortable if she went alone. Your wedding, your day, your way!
