Okay, I need opinions on decorating...

Okay, I need opinions on decorating...

We are now in the process of actually making the decisions on Pauls mural, room color and fabrics. I have been searching high and low for a crib set that fits with the mural theme. It's going to be a 'garden' type theme with trees, possibly a tree house, rope swing, see-saw, birdbath, etc. Little creatures scattered about. The wall colors would likely be either a linen white or an ice blue. This is an example pic, but not w/the tea party...

I have a 'vision' for the linens and fabrics, but I am coming up short here, so I need opinions on my creative concept.

I have fallen in *love* with the baby toile fabric. It is a country scene, with children on a see-saw, lots of trees, etc. I echos the design for the mural and I think I want this for the windows and bedding in blue:

To add interest, I would include a blue ticking fabric as an accent trim:

Along with blue, sage and pale yellow gingham:

I LOVE this quilt:

DO you think this will work in the room???

Claud it's absolutely beautiful!!! I'm not sure if all that blue would go with the mural, I was thinking more of 'nature's color' pretty much the ones that are in the mural. Who is doing the painting??

Thanks Camille...see, I was wondering about all the blue in the room too. I could do the same patterns with all sage green...the toile, ticking and gingham...with blue and yellow accents added here and there. Not sure if the fabrics should match the wall color or the mural colors. You see my dilemna?

Edited to add the green toile fabric:

Claud I love both the mural (even with the tea party!) and the patterns, but I'm also not sure how well they will go together because of the green in the mural. I agree that if you find the patterns in a green shade, it might look better.

I was doing some research on this for a co-worker who is having a boy: do you like any of these (the pictures are not posting for some reason)

Claud-the sage green is really nice! Do you like it as much as the blue?

Im with everyone here. The blue should be more of an earthy color.

Claud, your ideas are fabulous, but I agree... the green seems to flow better.
Can't wait to see pictures when it's all done!

Wow -- how beautiful!!! My friend did the giving tree for her little boy and went with mahogany furniture. It looks stunning with the linen and sage green.

Just wanted to say that the room is going to look BEAUTIFUL. I agree the green will go much better. It is softer too.

That pic is just an example that I pulled off the internet. The actual mural hasn't been painted yet, b/c I am deciding which artist to hire. I've interviewed three so far, and they all have different styles. We'll see.

But, we picked the wall color - a beautiful sky blue called Soar from Sherwin Williams. We just tested it today and it's gorgeous. The mural will be stunning no matter who paints it!

Thanks everyone for the compliments...I can't wait for it to be done, so I can share the 'real' photos!

Claud - why dont you try painting something yourself ?? (This way we can both do it to our sons rooms as a first time thing ! (and I wont be alone if i make a mess of it !! LOL)
Actually, ive been procrastinating because im afraid i'll mess it up. But I really think it cant be that hard to do a tree!
I just went to the Dr again yesterday (pediatrician) and looked at their gorgeous murals and I really think I can do a tree myself...just nervous !!
the clouds on the ceiling i can surely do...
maybe i can do a test on oaktag or something...

Re: Okay, I need opinions on decorating...

Anna - Ha! I'm sorry, sweetie...I just don't have the guts to try it myself. And honestly, I wouldn't be able to live with it if I messed up and it came out bad. I want it to look really nice, and if I try it myself, it's not going to look nice, I know it.

I am toying with the idea of Jeff and I adding a little detail somewhere in the room that we painted, and then signing it somehow, so Paul knows that we painted it. But, it may end up being inside his closet b/c I just don't have the artistic confidence to put it out on the wall. LOL!

If you are really focused on doing JA's yourself, you can use stencils to help you along. They have tons in the paint stores, and I'm sure in the craft stores too.

The artist we spoke to yesterday was so nice. She's a fine artist, and paints in the impressionistic style....kinda like Monet, but not that abstract. She actually suggested painting an apple tree, instead of a regular tree so that as Paul grows, I can add a little red to the room to make it more masculine. We'll see....I'm thinking it over. I'm not really into primary colors, and if there's a lot of sage than I feel like red will look like Christmas.

Yeah Claud youre right about the red and green looking like Xmas lol.
But red is definately nice on boys. the trucks and things in the red family, adorable ! my sisters doing a firehouse theme in her sons room. Hydrant garbage pail, little firetruck pillow personalized w his name, and everthing
I really wanna try something myself. Im not feeling gutsy enough to start it yet ! soon ! by springtime hopefully !
I was thinking when JA gets bigger to let him put his own handprint somewhere on the wall

Claud -

Do you mind me asking what the cost of the mural runs? I know that the more involved it is, the more $$$ it is!

My BIL is a cartoonist and would do it for us, but I'm curious to see what it costs if we didn't ask him!

BTW, I love that mural!

Thanks!
