Okay, so I'm a mushy daycare mommy!!!

So my little girl has been in daycare for several weeks now (she's almost four months old now) since I've been back from maternity leave. And, I've been going there every day for lunch. This week, she has not been drinking her full bottle at her feedings, and stops midway, refusing the rest of the bottle. So, when I got there today, she had just stopped taking the bottle. (By the way, the women there are very good with her, and are affectionate, etc.) But, I took her, held her, kissed her, and she took the rest of the bottle. In response, one of the sweet women there says 'I guess she knows who her mommy is'..... and I started to BALL MY EYES OUT at the thought that she really does know me!!! I know everyone says that babies quickly recognize a mother's smell, look, touch, etc., but to have proof of it is a truly wonderful thing! I can't believe how hard I cried. The women there thought it was so cute, but I felt like the biggest mush!!!

Oh Lauren, you just made me cry because I'm going through that myself -- not with daycare, but with Joe's grandmother!!!

This morning she was smiling away at Nanny and totally ignored me!! And that's not the first time, she did it to me every night I got home this week also. I think she forgot all about me since I'm at work, so I totally know how you feel!!!

AWEE! Lauren, thats SOOO Sweet !! Cry all you want, thats what mommies do

Deb, they almost always get attached to the person that they spend most of the day with (well except for my son who will choose daddy ANY DAY )
As long as they are in good hands and feel that special bond, thats all you should worry about.
There's NO LOVE like the love they have for their mommy. Its 2 different loves.

Of course she knows who her mommy is!!! That's great that you can see her at lunchtime every day!!

And I DEFINITELY want her to bond with her caretakers because I want her to be happy during the day (I'm trying not to be selfish), but I still want her to be happIEST with her mommy!

Re: Okay, so I'm a mushy daycare mommy!!!

Even though I am not a mommy yet, I do have a story about babies remembering their mommies.
My mother got critically injured when I was 6 weeks old. She was sterilizing my baby bottles and her nightgown caught fire and she had 3rd degree burns on her back and arms. She was hospitalized for months and my grandmother (father's mom) took care of me while she was in the hospital. Since they didn't want my mother to catch an infection, the wouldn't let me up to see her. When she was finally able to after about a month, she got to hold me and she said I snuggled her. I must of remembered her scent ..or the fact that that she was my mommy. She hadn't held me since I was 6 weeks old. She said that I hadn't forgotten her. EVen 30 years ago..she remembers like it was yesterday that it is proof that babies remember their mommies...even if you are at work!

Oh Dawnie, you just totally made me cry! That was a beautiful story, not the fact that your mom got hurt, I'm sorry about that, but the fact that you snuggled her once she was able to hold you again!! Oh, I'm starting to tear up again!!!! Thank you for that!!! I needed that!!

Re: Okay, so I'm a mushy daycare mommy!!!

Sorry..didn't mean to make you cry....
We have a special bond..I think it is because she missed out on a few months the first few months of my life!
She missed my Christening because they thought she was going to die so they figured they would just go on with the Christening because I think Catholic's back then wouldn't let the baby out of the house until they were baptized and it was already scheduled.
I have the baby picture that was taken a day before the accident. I am putting in my wedding video. She also has a few pictures when she was out of the hospital and you can see the bandages. She said that she lived because she had me to come home to. I have this guilt that it wouldn't of happened if she wasn't sterilizing the bottles for me!
I am just lucky that I still have my mommy. She is my angel and I believe God left her here for me (and my sister..she was born 3 years after me..)

Wow..now I got myself crying!

I guess when I have children hopefully someday and I have to go back to work, my own the story my that mother told me will make me feel a little better knowing my baby at least remembers me while I'm gone!

How sweet.

I always try to encourage Mom's to come visit our Day Care, if they are local, especially if they are BF'd. When Mom's come everyday the babies expect it and we have some who will refuse to take a bottle, but settle in right away to nurse when Momma shows up. Babies definitely know their Momma's. Whenever someone else holds Damien he always checks out where I am.

Enjoy going to visit now, because when she gets older when you try to visit she will think it's time to go home

Dawnie that was some story

Dawn- OMG..your poor mother. How awful. I am tearing up just thinking about being away from my baby, near dying. What a tramatic time for your whole family. But you are right, babies do not just forget their Mommys.

I DREAD the whole daycare thing come March. I will be crying online with all of you!
