Jess we had a doberman growing up and she was the best dog. She was so great with my little brother! When we get a dog I would probably get another doberman. They need to be able to run and respond really well to training.
Congratulations!

have fun!!! well, my advice. since she is still young, get annoying when it comes to her food. when she eats, start off taking the bowl away, then take kibble out, etc. this is important b/c when you have kids, you want the dog to be okay when your kids get annoying and take food out of her bowl. but have fun with her!

Great tip...I also heard to start playing with their nails, and gums and even belly so that thye get used to the poking and prodding at the vet..

CRATE CRATE CRATE!!! That and establish dominance (I can't stress this enough...)especially with a large dog/aggressive breed. WE have a rottweiler...best thing we ever did! She's such a LUSH!!!
Also, Consistency is KEY! When training (whether it be potty, behavior, social)....keep to a routine, keep the rules the same between you and FH/DH.
SOCIALIZE!! Again...especially for those 'aggressive' types. That is why stereotypes exist....because too many people have had 1 BAD experience and forget the hundreds of good ones. You'll notice alot of people approach you with a personal experience/story of owning
P.S. Nature's Miracle for accident cleanup

We bought the crate...I read that you should divide it so he doesn't want to eliminate in in..if it's too big he'll go i=on one side and sleep on the other. however the crate we bought doesn't have a divider , book said we can make one...Hello out of what????
