Old Westbury Gardens - time for pictures?

I really want to book OWG for pictures but before I pay all of that money, I want to make sure there is enough time to even go there. For brides who took pics at OWG or are planning on it, I was just wondering if you think I'll have enough time. I'm having a 3pm mass at a church in Queens (about half an hour from OWG). Since it's a mass it should end around 4pm. I know that we'll be taking family pictures at the church after the mass. The cocktail hour starts at 6pm and is at Jericho Terrace (only about 10-15 minutes from OWG). I know that you get 1.5 hours at the gardens, but do you really need that long? Any advice would be wonderful :)

Re: Old Westbury Gardens - time for pictures?

It really depends on how many areas of the Gardens you want to use for your pictures, and whether you need to wait to get into any of the areas you choose. We took our engagement pics there on a weekday in Sept. We were lucky that there was only one wedding couple there taking pics, so there wasn't really a back up at any of the sites we wanted. We did use our full amount of time, but some of the areas we wanted were far apart from each other.

My cousin looked at OWG. She went with The Planting Fields In Oyster Bay. It's beautiful & alot cheeper. It's about 15 min. east of OWG

That is what I am thinking of doing-- OWG is soo pricey! Do you have pics of planting fields?

Re: Old Westbury Gardens - time for pictures?

since you're planning on spending some time in the church after mass for pics I think you'll be getting out around 4:30 if you're coming from Queens to Mineola/Wesbury area that should be 30-35 mins. I say go ahead and book OWG only if you're planning in not going to the cocktail hour. otherwise I don't think you'll have enough time.... & I dont think you want to miss your cocktail hour b/c you def want pics taken in your reception room before all the guests arrive. Talk to your photographer if you have one yet ....I am sure he'll guide you in the right direction & give you some excellent recommendations... Good Luck!
