I'm a older bride.
I got married for the first time, in September, at the age of 44.

Hi All,
I'm a little older than all of you, but it's nice to see that there are others on this site.
I'm getting married in October.
We're having a small wedding...just close family and friends.
What kind of wedding are you having (or did you have)?

Small also, about 80 family and friends. We didn't want a big thing. We're not going overboard with anything, and we're not having a lot of the usual 'wedding' stuff, like the announcing of the bridal party, the throwing of the bouquet and garter, no father/daughter or mother/son dance--I'm not even sure if we're having a first dance at this point, as we never took any dance lessons, and we suck, to put it mildly.

I'm really looking forward to it! The only thing I'm not looking forward to is tracking down the last few non-responders, which I'm doing tonight and tomorrow. What is wrong with people??

We're not doing all the 'traditional' stuff either. We want to go to our cocktail hour and spend time with our guests. The bridal party will consist of a Maid of Honor and a Best Man only. Glad to hear that someone is doing the same thing as us.

We are combining traditional wedding things with some non traditional wedding things. We are having approximately 110 people and we plan on announcing the bridal party. We aren't doing to the boq and garter toss. FH & I want to do the first dance thing, we haven't taken any dance lessons but we have been practicing.

Invitations by Dawn. We ended up going with the invitation that has the celtic knot work border. We ordered them online on a Monday night and I received them the Thursday of the same week.

There seems to be a cluster of us 40-year-olds! I'm getting married for the first time in July. (It will be my FH's second marriage).

We will have about 85 guests. There will be no bridal party and there will be no bouquet toss or garter. But we are doing all the first dances (I'm a sentimentalist). It was important for me that we find a DJ who would reflect the mature, elegant atmosphere I wanted for the evening. I think we found that with A Starry Night (based in Manhattan).

I will be turning 43 a little over a week before my wedding (1st one for me and he was married by a Justice of the Peace the 1st time) and I am doing pretty much the same thing as you (except the dance practice...we'll just wing it ).

Your welcome, let me know if there is anything else that I can help you with. If you really like the claddagh symbol, I got my claddagh cake topper from ebay and they had other accessories that matched the caketopper as well.

Re: Older first-time brides

I think my id gives a hint. I'm 56 (eeks and egad) and he is 61 and first time for both of us. You'd think we'd be smarter.
We're doing similar to the other girls - - no garter or bo-k but will do intros, first dance Having about 75 people. Basically being traditional but eliminating some of the xtras - - no personalized napkins, crypacks, slippers etc. But since I am using an invite with a pink rose, I decided to attempt to make pink candy rose lollipops as multi use favors/place cards.

We are just a few years younger than you. It is the first time for both of us too. It just took a little longer for us to find the 'love of our lives'.
I wish both of you all the best.

I'm 33, DH is 43, we had 85 people. I was the youngest person there. We had a DJ but just with background music and we had a casino for entertainment. Everyone seemed to really love the lower, calmer music and was able to talk and the casino kept everyone entertained. We didn't do a lot of the 'traditional' things like garter toss/bo-k toss.
