older sister stealing spotlight!!!

older sister stealing spotlight!!!

My older sister who is my matron of honor really has no sense at all and I'm not sure if this is being done on purpose. Her husband who she was in the process of divorcing died in May and she was dating someone else at the time. She couldn't wait till after my wedding and eloped last month. My father is furious as he just found out and now I'm worried that all everyone is going to talk about is that she got remarried so quickly.

Am I wrong for being upset. I know she just doens't think, but even my younger sister who is my MOH said she hasn't participated in anything and left it all for her to plan. We get comments from her like, we don't have a wedding song... and pouts!!! How can you have a wedding song!!! You just met this man in April and just married him!!!

Am I taking this all wrong? I almost feel like she wants to steal the spotlight from my FH and me. And that she didn't participate in the planning because it's not about her? Don't get me wrong, I love her to death, she is my sister and we are always there for each other. And not to mention she did pay for my gown (she has money). But am I wrong for feeling this way? I can't say anything because she is the type to get defensive on everything and being the wedding is this Sunday, I don't want any problems.....

Sorry needed to vent

I would feel the same, and my sisters and I are REALLY close.

Although you can't expect her to plan her life events around your wedding, it was still a bit of a lack of respect on her part.

My cousin got engaged right before me and I made sure I didn't step on her toes in planning my wedding. Its just common courtesy.

Maybe she didn't think, or realize that she might of hurt you by causing the whole family to 'talk' about her when this should be your time. I'd try to forgive her for not noticing that you might like a little spotlight time too...most important, its not worth resenting her.

It sounds like maybe she's jealous of you for getting to have a 'real' wedding and she regrets eloping bc now 'we don't have a wedding song, etc'. I would suggest to her that they should have some kind of party, like a reception where they can celebrate their new marriage. This way she won't feel like she missed out on things. Otherwise it'll all blow over after your wedding, so don't worry about it.

And don't think for a second that all everyone will be talking about at your wedding is your sister!!!! Yes, there may be some comments here and there but for the most part everyone will be focusing on the love that you and your new DH share. They'll all be looking at you and talking about what a beautiful bride you are, they won't pay any attention to your sister.

sorry to hear!!!!
I'm sure your wedding will be fabulous anyway and that's what will stick in people's minds.

My mom got married exactly 3weeks before me, trust me I know how you're feeling and I was upset!!!!
Your wedding will leave a lasting impression!!!!

Don't let her get to you. This is your day, I wouldn't worry one bit about what people are talking about as long as you have an amazing time.
