I know. It is like New Oleans has become a third world country. I have been watching CNN and it is just unreal what is going on. How can we (the US) be so unprepared and what are our leaders doing about it?

I agree with this so much. The U.S. is always rushing to the rescue of other countries. When cr@p happens to us, where is OUR help?

Where is the help from our own government?! They have had no water or food. They are living (and dying) in squalid conditions. Where is the relief for these people? Where is our President? Where is the National Guard? All accounts I have been hearing they say that the Guard is nowhere to be found.

Re: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because of what I do, I am surrounded by news and updates. I know what has happened is awful and looks like nothing is being done, however, massive efforts are being made to get these people to safety. Just think how hard it is to get 1 million people out of a city that is flooding in a matter of hours and/or days. Keep in mind that most roads leading to these areas were impassible and had to be cleared.
The efforts that are going into this are enormous and I don't think any of us have any clue at how difficult coordinating all these services are.
Please be more patient and do what you can to help.

I understand that a massive evacuation takes time. I am talking about the fact that people are at the evacuation centers and dying. They have no water and food. This didn't happen today or yesterday it happened days ago. At least they should have the bare minimum to sustain life.

Re: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they cant get to them via cars or trucks then they shouyld drop food via helicopters. When the tsunami hit in Asia, it seemed liek there were rescu missions withing hours dropping food via planes and helicopters. We live in America, we have so many resources and help soi many others in need but our own poeple are dying by the mintue and nothing can be done?

Re: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if we had to evacaute long island, i believe this would be the same result..... there is no place to go...it seems like no one is coming cause they are coving such a large area.
even though they saved soo many, they left soo many behind. its sad...it will be months before they know how many truely died if they ever find out.
if this continues, New Orleans will be inhatable for quite some time. and this wont take months to rebuild or years... we are talking about a decade + rebuilding ...

Re: OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really think its time for the Army and the National Guard to go in there and start kicking some a__.
Too many people are getting out of line. We pay TONS of taxes to keep our military... I think its time to use some of it.
I think if the looters and a-holes of the town see tanks and army helicopters and such coming toward them... they would be GONE.
