Did you have a warranty or insurance on it? If you do they will replace it. If not, contact the jeweler and I am sure they will be willing to help you out.

They might...some insurance companies will add it on to your renters or homeowners insurance policies.

mine came from jareds and they have a life time diamond coverage god forbid something should happen they will resey or replace the diamonds

I like Jewelers Mutual because just insure jewerly, and their replacement policy is really good.

The jeweler your FH got the ring from should have provided one free of charge, they usually will . . . maybe just ask. But, if you want to make sure that jeweler didn't overcharge, you can always get another. By me, it's about 40 bucks to get an appraisal.
Most larger jewelers do it regularly and others have a gemologist come in once or twice a week or so by appt. or first come first serve. Call the first local jeweler you can think of, and if they can't do it, they'll recommend someone who can.
