Thats pretty common out of state. But I think its weird to invite people to a party and then have them buy their own drinks. But I have seen and heard of this being done a lot! Also common out of state is wine beer and soda only and then other drinks are cash.

I know it's unheard of in NY, but I think I'd rather a cash bar than a no alcohol wedding. Although I do understand that some people do no alcohol because of religious reasons or because of an alcoholic in the family.

I think I'm the only one that is honestly not bothered by it!

My methods to my madness:

1. Cash bar - like being at a club with great food. No big deal, I buy my own drinks all the time, so I'm just more excited when the liquor is free.

2. Sunday weddings - I HATE when people (i.e. my friends) complain about them. We go the fuucking Boardy Barn people!!!!!

Was it in NY? Because as a lot of other girls said, it’s fairly common out of state…I think it’s fairly common upstate too.

Re: OMG LAME!!!!

we actually talked about this before we signed the contract...figured if people have to pay for it they wont drink as much and we wouldnt have to worry about them driving home. but we just decided on closing the bar an hour before the reception ends so it gives people time to sober up :)

I was going to say...the only wedding with a cash bar that I've been to was in Massachusetts. Although, I've been to other weddings in MA that were not cash bars. So I guess it depends on the place and the people.

Luckily, I was in the BP and drinks were free for us all night. All other guests had free drinks during the CH, but after that had to pay.

yeah i went to a wedding out of state and it was a cash bar.

i think outside of new york people don't spend as much on their weddings as people here do.

i really don't think it's that big a deal to have to pay for your drinks at a wedding, but my FH gets REALLY upset by it!

i just think people do what they can afford. but i personally would never have a cash bar and would cut corners somewhere else...b/c i just wouldn't want my guests to have to worry about it.
