OMG Please Help!

Original post by adele and mark 2013

I'm beginning to lose my mind. After tomorrow FI and I will have seen 10 venues and, for various reasons, haven't chosen one. Part of my problem is that, though we haven't set a date, I've kinda fallen in love with a date and either it's already booked or we're not in love with the venue. Here's a list of places we've seen or will see:

1. Flowerfield (showcase): wasn't for us, we were very interested in Land's End so we went for the vendors. Plus it started our searching process.
2. The Venetian Yacht Club: loved it, but since it was still early, didn't book anything, 'OUR DATE' WAS BOOKED 3 DAYS AGO!!!!!
3. Land's End: Fell in love with the look and feel (except the ceiling) but not the price! Plus I later found out 'our date' wasn't available.
4. Timber Point: went there on a whim on our way home from LE, not what we are looking for.
5. San Souci: FI had heard about it so we went but again was not what we are looking for.
6. Crescent Beach Club: very beautiful, like walking onto a cruise ship. I was afraid my wedding would become to 'beachy' for me and I was not thrilled with their listed menu, which the BM did not go over with us. She instead stated that she was going to send us home with the info and would go over the menu after we booked. It seemed as though she was trying to sell the space more than an event. I dunno, jsut not one of our top, but it was very beautiful.
7. Chateau La Mer: FI and I love the ourdoor cocktail hour patio, but FI didn't like the indoor setup and thought the reception room was a bit too small.
8. Chateau Briand: very nice both inside and out, FI LOVES the outdoor oasis and loves the indoor cocktail hour space. I just wish the location itself was not so close to us; we pass it all the time. Plus my neighbor's daughter just booked her wedding there. It's possible we'll be invited and it's 3 months before mine. I'm not going to sit at someone else's wedding and compare it to mine. NOPE
*9. Lombardi's on the Sound (today)
*10. Fow Hollow (tomorrow)
*11. Crest Hollow CC (tomorrow)

*Haven't seen yet.

Look at that,I was off by one on my original count now that I look at it all laid out. Needless to say, I'm overwhelmed, becoming very stressed out and I'm ready to give up and elope, which would not make me happy. I want to enjoy the planning process, like everyone tells me I should. I never would have imagined it to be this difficult. I've alwasy wanted that 'OMG this is it!' moment I keep hearing about. I think another one of my problems is that with each place I see, unless I absolutely dislike it, I wasnt so badly to set a date and book, that I begin imagining it as 'THE ONE.' Please, I need some help and advice. I go back to work next week and my stress level is going to sky rocket. Oroginally FI and I wanted to book by next week.

Re: OMG Please Help!

For me, booking the venue was the first thing we did... and the hardest. I was stressed out up until that point, too. But as soon as we booked, we knew we made the right decision and pretty much everything else just fell into place.

It's kind of the most essential piece of the puzzle, when you think about it. But I think the burden will be lifted as soon as you decide where to book with.

That being said, you'll probably find a place with your date available, that you absolutely LOVE and it'll make all this searching worth it, and you'll see why nothing else worked out. It always happens that way :)

Lessings has a venue called The Pavillion at sunken meadow beach.

Does it have to be on LI? Giandos on the Water in Brooklyn is gorgeous.

I understand the idea of 'falling in love with' a specific date. But if you think about it, the date doesn't really matter, the day is going to make the date. Does that make sense? lol Once you have your wedding on whatever date it is, it becomes special to you. You may not be able to get your dream venue AND your dream date, so wouldn't you rather have your dream venue? The place will make the memories, the date is just a number.

If you loved Land's End except the price and the ceiling, you can do what I did. Pick an offseason date (a friday in April, for example) and get the draping on the ceiling so its not such an eyesore (I think I have a picture in one of my albums.

Obviously I'm partial to Land's End. :) I saw quite a few places before making a decision, too. Have you tried looking at Bridgeview Yacht Club? That was one of our top 3.

Hope your appointments go well this weekend! Good luck and congratulations!

I agree RE: Land's End (again, partial). You'd be surprised how they can work with you if you give up on a specific date.

As for the ceiling, I happened to see the ballroom with the draping up and I FELL IN LOVE. Also, my, FH, and both of our families are all REALLY TALL, so we absolutely loved the very high ceilings.

Also, don't know if this helps, but picking a venue was what caused me the most stress as well. Once you lock this down, it gets so much easier! And so much fun.

Finally, it sounds like you have some major stress going on in your life. Why don't you take a week, clear up your personal issues, and get back to wedding planning. It will all still be there when you return. Try not to let the 'quick' nature of LIW get to you. There are literally hundreds of beautiful venues and talented vendors out there, above and beyond those that are popular on this site. :)

Good luck. Deep breaths. It will all work out!

Re: OMG Please Help!

first of all...relax! i was feeling exactly like you are a year ago...I also went to a ridic amount of venues before we decied on The Woodlands in Woodbury...I think 9...many of the same venues you have seen. we originally wanted a specific date and absolutely needed to have it on the water...however,. the specific date didnt pan out, and the water thing was too much money...i really wanted lands end but in my experience, they were not willing to work with us and plus my best friend was married there so i wasnt too sad when we had to nix it...lombardis on the sound was ok but really nothing special for the price, you were just paying for the view i think...ultimately we went with the woodlands because it had that old time elegant feel and a lot of history, and while it isnt on the water, it has several lakes and ponds on the grounds (120 acres!) that we can take pics in front of...its really a beautiful place, and it might be worth checking out for you. ask to meet with margaret, she is amazing and worked with us so much to help us get what we wanted.

Re: OMG Please Help!

I have been very stressed these last few weeks, mostly because I am getting married this summer and have only started looking at halls in the last 2 weeks.

I am also partial, but you should take a look at The WaterView Club. It might be on the small side for 185 people, but they told me that they can hold up to 250, and it gives a really nice intimate feel no matter what size you have. They quoted me $90-$120 pp for a Saturday night, and they made it seem like it's really easy to keep to $90 if you really want to.

It's right on the Sound, so it has a great view, but if you were hoping for the ocean I completely understand. It was my life-saver, because for a bit I really had my heart set on Gurney's in Montauk and there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to do $150 per person.

Good luck!

How did you like the Fox Hollow? We were thinking of that location. If you want, we can share quotes. I'm interested to see if we were offered different things.

Re: OMG Please Help!

I saw 10+ venues, including 2 in mexico before finding our place!

breathe and just enjoy the process of searching for a great place, in the beginning its fun and i know once you reach this many its starts to get tedious but just stick it out and you will walk into a place that is 'wow, this is it'

it was our last stop when we had that moment...it was at lombardis on the bay

i think if you liked venetian, you should look at North Ritz Club, Villa Lombardi's and Lombardi's on the Bay- they have similar feels in my opinion and do not carry the price tag of lands end

you might also have to sacrifice your date if you get that 'wow factor' you and fh will have to weight out the pros/cons...good luck!
