I had NO idea how overwhelming registering was going to me! FH and I went to Crate and Barrell and Fortuneoff's today and I was feeling EXTREMELY stressed!! I felt like there were too many choices, and i was missing things--- it did not go well. In any event.... I know that I should register for a wide range of items as far as pricing goes-- but on the total... I don't know what is appropriate and what is not!! So my question is....
What is the total dollar amount on your registry or registries?? I don't know what is appropriate!! And if you don't mind, please let me know if you and FH have been living together at all! (I think that will affect the final number!!) Thanks girls!

I have no idea.... but we didnt worry about it too much because we figured that if we had some pricey things, people might choose to go in together for a larger gift....and if we didnt get it, we would just get it ourselves!
Dont stress too much, you are going to go back several times....I was stressed also...the best thing I figured out was go section by section and do it on different days so it is not overwhelming!
good luck!

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
i wouldn't worry about the total amount of all the gifts added up together, nobody looking at your registry will look for this...Just do a wide range of prices, i have very inexpensive things mid price range and then expensive things like the china but these are things your parents buy or your bp pitches in together to buy. As a guest looking at someones registry you know this already, you see expensive items such as china and know its for close family or friends to buy and nobody is obligated to spend a certain amount. As long as you have both inexpensive and expensive things then i wouldn't worry. If you have a registry with only expensive things then yeah that is different.

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
i wish I could help but we haven't registered yet, either... however, we do live together. All of our stuff is hand-me-downs, though. Once we moved in, all of my family gave me whatever 'extras' they had. So we will need all new stuff

this is great advice...we got overwhelmed quickly also but we tried to do it all in one day and all that ended up happening is that I went later on line and took half of it off! Break it down section by section to keep from going crazy and it actually can be enjoyable (this is coming for a shopping hater!)
eta: I didn't worry about the pricing on anything b/c if they don't buy it ,fine. Registries are a wish list so people understand, and if they 'wish' to get it they can

Registering was a nightmare for us too we got in a screaming match in the parking lot. I would worry about the total dollar amount on everything. Just get what you need

hmmm we actually enjoyed it, we did get tired at one point and just stopped...We also just went section by section. Also dont forget you can take things off your registry whenever and add things too, you can do it online so its alot easier. Doing 2 in one day is alot though

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
we have been living together since March. However, since we knew we'd be getting married in a year or so we didn't bother getting ourselves anything 'good' Examples: Our pots came in a box set that included all our silverware and large utensils. The pots were 'dead' within a month of getting them, we are not replacing them ourselves unless they don't get bought off the registry.
Our bedding is all from differant clearance sections, does not match, and is not the best quality.
Our plates are crap. we have no kitchen appliences aside from the microwave which FMIL bought us when we moved in.
We are registered at Target and Fortunoff and we have yet to complete either of them b/c it is SUPER overwhelming. We don't want to look greedy, but we don't want to look like we want 'cheap crap' either.
Register for what you want. If people don't want to buy it...they won't.

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
I felt the same way. But all the girls that just posted are right... We felt like we put way too much on our registry also but after thinking about it and talking to a few recent brides, they all said the same thing. A close family member like a parent or an aunt or uncle might chose to buy you the expensive things or a few friends might pool together to get you one expensive thing. As for the little things-many times one person will buy you 20 little things instead of one big expensive thing. Don't worry about how much you registered for or the prices of things. If someone wants to buy it for you-they will. If they don't.... You and the FH can buy it after. The stores typically give you a small percentage off after the wedding day, so that you and FH can buy it yourselves. HTH

You're all so helpful!!
FH got totally scanner gun happy and I was like WAIT!! lol--- I just felt like Fortunoffs was too big- we either have to do it in sections or spread it out which is a great idea. I'm having trouble registering for little things though-- I am registering for all small appliances in stainless steel since that is what my kitchen is- but everything is a few hundred dollars!! We have all of the small stuff- I just don't know how to get a wider range on there! LOL-- Thanks girls!

All awesome ideas!! We have so many of them though- I probably should have mentioned at some point that I went to culinary school..... so for the past 5 years for ALL holidays everyone I know gets me kitchen stuff!!! LOL- I have like three sets of every type of utensil, mixxing bowl ect. I even have all of the appliances that I registerd for- just not in stainless. We just moved into our house last year and bought EVERYTHING new from fortunoffs- bathroom etc. Even my xmas stuff.... UGH! I'm so wishing I hadn't done that! Plus we hadn't registered before our Eparty so we got a TON of Crystal-- Tiffany's Nambe, Waterford Lenox.... I'm going to have to rent a POD after the shower to keep everything in- my basement is still filled with gifts from our eparty LAST october!!!
Would anyone like to rent out their Garage for me and FH?? THAT IS FULL TOO!! lol. You'd think we have a tiny house- we have a 3br!!!

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
Just register for everything you want, no matter what the price. You'd be surprised what people would get you. For higher priced items you would probably get friends chipping in together. You also want the lower priced items so people get them for your wishing well.

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
Don't let registering get you to -- you should enjoy it -- we did (do). We just do a little at a time and I am always going on line to change things around.
We do live together but most of our stuff was not new and has definately seen better days. We are registered for a lot of stuff -- if we get it great if not it is a list of things we know we want that we can buy for ourselves!!!!

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
I know you said you were registered at Fortunoff but if you go on the bedbathandbeyond website (bedbathandbeyond.com). Click on Bridal Registry on the side-they have a complete list of things (in every department) that you and your FH should register for. You can print it out and then decide what you don't have on there. HTH

Re: OMG REGISTRY~~
It can be so overwhelming. Even if you dont register at Bed Bath& Beyond I would go on their site and go to bridal registry and print out their registry checklist it has a breakdown of everything from dinner ware to bathroom items. It is so helpful, I highlighted items I knew I would need then when I went to my registry I checked them off as I went along.

we registered for things starting as low as 1.00 all the way up to 399.00 people like to spend different amounts. more expensive items are good for immed. family and or group gifts. bottom line, get what you like if you dont now, you never will. people will buy it for ya!
