OMG, went to go buy a car today..........

And I guess JT and I look young and naive because the saleman had NO idea what he was getting himself into. He basically DOUBLED the price of a car in about a matter of 10 minutes and we called him on it. We then proceeded to ask him to lay it out on paper and show us how a 10,000 car suddenly bacame a 20,000 car if we didn't add any options, so he got nervous and got his manager to come over and help us.....so after MORE pushing to see all this 'figuring' laid out for us, the manager got nervous and went to get SOMEONE ELSE! And then the last guy that came over had a look on his face of, 'How in HELL am I going to make the math work on this one?' Needless to say we called them on their blatant attempt to swindle a young couple out of their hard earned dollars and then after we made them dance for us, we left. What JACKASSES! I'm not an idiot, I know that a car that costs 10,000 plus tax and a 9% finance rate does NOT equal 20,000. Friggin salesmen!

That's F-ed up Rachel, I'm glad you put them in their place. I had an experience like that, going in by myself looking at Nissan's w/o FH and was talked to like I was an idiot. I had a trade in (which when I sold it privately was $13k) said he'd give me 12k for the car but proceeded to pump up the price of the car...so if I took his deal my payment per month would have been about $475 w/ a big down payment for a Altima for 4 years!?

I was thinking of re-purchasing a vehicle identical to my own. (to fix up) I called a guy knowing all the specs of this vehicle to the T since A) I already own one, B) Belong to a group dedicated to the driving, fixing up and and basically obessed owners of this vehicle and C) looked up all the info about the car since I was in the Auto Claim industry at the time.

He guy says he wanted $8,000 for a $3500 car. I was real calm and walked through the options it may or may not have. Ok this should have been his clue, right? So when Im done I see the car's options balanced with milage STILL isnt $8,000 so I say, 'how much was you asking price?' and he sticks with it, so in my very calm curious female voice I said 'Uhmm alright.. so just a few more questions.. (guy smells $eller) ... exactly what song does it sing me to sleep with?' He's like 'uh.. What?' I said 'I want to know if it sings me to sleep. And if so with which song?' DEAD SERIOUS

He's freaking out 'uhmm Im not sure I undersand.. music..it's got a great system...blah' I said 'No, you don't understand according blah blah blah blah this vehicle is worth at MOST $3500 and that's with a lower milage than you're offering.. so for an extra $4,000 I want to know if it sings me to sleep or is there some sorta of massage that comes installed.'

He tried HARD to say it was valid. So I tore each of his so called reasons to pieces. heh He had run out of lies. I said I'd 'think' about it.

You know you possibly can get a cheaper finance rate if you finance the car through your bank....9% is kind of steep.

I thought the same thing with the 9% rate...even Dh who has no credit (which is bad credit in the eyes of banks) got 6.9%


but boy can I sympathize...(and not all dealers are like this...we LOVED our Saab dealer...and I'm sure chmlegr's DH is fantastic too)...but we had a dealer running us all kinds of crappy numbers...but we got them to agree on a trade in price...then we showed them that we had a friends and family # (which made the price automatic 1% below interest) so they screwed themselve...trying to raise the price and making us think we got a good deal b/c of the trade in

That is awful. I remember when I was buying my first new car. I wanted to do it all by myself, even though my dad had been in the industry for many years and knew a lot of the dealers. I went to look at one car and the first thing the salesman told me was 'Would you like to see what colors it comes in' Hum...no...how about let me see if I like the way the car drives, not the colors...

You can call the BBB and make a complaint. That is very bad business practices in my eyes. You can also call the corporate offices of the car company and make a complaint.

I would NOT use that dealer again!

we had the same deal at a hyundai dealership yesterday. $3000 down, and $370 for 60 months!!!! For a sonota!!! We wanted a lease type deal with a balloon at the end so the months were not too much for us to handle. they had us there for 2 hours. we were so angry at the end we wanted to go back and tell them the great deal we got at ramp!

we went to ramp chevy(dh has bought 2 cars and mil bought 1 from them) and we got the new 2004 malibu fully loaded (no leather or heated seat or 6 disc changer). It even has remote start! $3200 down, $235 a month for 3 years. Balloon payment for $10000 at end if we want to keep it . If not drive it down to the dealer give em' the keys and say so long!

Ugh! We've been going through this for the last few months!

We were dealing with a certain dealership, and they gave us what we thought was a fair price. We then decided to wait for the 2004 model and the salesman told us it would be the same price for the lease, and he would give us a call when they were coming in...

Well, he finally calls us and gives a price $75(a month) above what he had origianlly said! Ummmmmmm, I said how can it be? Edmunds lists the car for only $600 more, and the residual is better! In the course of the phone conversation he came down $20. Still not good enough.

He knew that my parents had just bought the same brand car (different model) from another dealership. We mentioned that tonight they were going to pick up their new car. A little while later we get a call back from the guy that he talked to his GM (don't you LOVE that line? ), and he got us an AMAZING price, but he can't give it to me over the phone...WTF? SO, on our day off, on the Jewish holiday, we trek down there, annoyed as all heck. He does give us a great price, lower than the original price, but now we are so fed up with his game, he talked himself right out of a sale! Why couldn't he just give us that price over the phone??

We took that price and had the other dealership match it!! It brought me great joy to leave a message on his voicemail (I'm chicken) thanking him for his 'effort' but we were going with the other dealership.

They always think they can scam you!!!
Especially on 112! If you are looking into hondas check out babylon honda. I just got a really good deal there.

Oh, this is the best part, he overheard JT say, maybe we should just lease a car, and then he jumped in with, 'NY state does not lease cars anymore, didn't anyone tell you that?' I was like, sure, ok, whatever *******.
