What would you do if you got a check as a gift and it bounced??? I would hate to have to call the person and banks charge ridiculous fees nowadays (I work for one) and from what I've read on the newlywed board, some *close friends and family mbrs* claim they will send another check and never do...wth?
..what would you do?

Is there a branch of their bank around you? I would go in there and see if THEY can send it back to them . . . . .

I think I would deposit again at the end of the week but I wouldnt tell them, I dont think they will send another one. Does a person find out if the check they sent somebody bounced?

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
The bank will automatically send the copy back to you & then you can re-deposit it...of course if it comes back again then you will get two bounced checks. But it happened to a couple of girls on the Newlywed boards & alot of them said that their friends & family promised to send another check & never did. My FH isn't scared of anyone..so I'll prob make him do it..I love my big strong man!! LOLLLLL

Yea...it should show as returned on their statement...and they may even get a fee from their bank.

Oh yes there are, my friend got married last year and one of her guests checks bounced. She was so embarrased for the guest and didnt know what to say or do. The bank notified the guest of the bounced check but she felt weird asking for the money so she just didnt say anything and let them come to her on how to handle it

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
Honestly, the more I think about it, I'd probably tear it up and throw it away. It shouldn't screw up their account if the money wasn't in there, and they will find out on their statement. And as a gift-giver, I always use cash to avoid the bride and groom having to go to the bank, unless I'm sending the gift, or the bride and groom are getting married OOT (so they don't travel with cash).

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
it would matter who that person was close too... (my parents, fh or me) ...that person would then call them about the 'misunderstanding'

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
Dont banks usually send notices to the party that bounced the check with a copy of the check?? I know at work when those things happen thats what we receive. SO the people should know what they did! Its up to them to rectify it.

Then I wouldnt say anything, they will know and probably not send another one

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
That sort of happened to me at my engagement party. Someone gave us a check and when we went to deposit it, instead of them depositing it and then telling me it bounced, the teller told me that they had insufficient funds. I just held off on depositing it for a week and then tried again and it worked. But how embarrassing!

Re: OMG...What would you do if?
I think they would be too embarrassed to send another one. Times are hard, and Im not going to assume that the person did it on purpose. These things happen unfortunately. I would call them and ask them if they wanted me to redeposit it. A check isnt the admission price to my wedding. I'd understand and pray that they get through what ever financial bind they must be in.
