On a Strict Budget...Venting

On a Strict Budget...Venting

We got married and bought our house all within the same time last October. We are broke. Just plain broke...2 weeks ago I got my refund check from federal and paid 2 big bills with it---yesterday DH got his small federal return, and what did I do, went to Kohls last night and spent it plus another $100...do i feel guilty? Not anymore b/c it is all going back tonight. Well, the clothes are going back, the house stuff is staying. But NOW, I want to pull out the Ann Taylor credit card, the Macys card the Amex card and jsut go SHOPPING....but I can't. oooohhhhhh. This is hard, I am not use to not shopping when I want to...but it will get better, DH has 3 construction side jobs, 4 soccer teams to coach (which is good money) and after we play catch up I can get a few things (that I don't even NEED-) AND I am dieting....

thanks for letting me vent....!

LOL pasta is also very cheap! I alternated between pasta and the cheapest no-name sauce and ramen noodles for a while! Going out for pizza made me feel rich!

I felt the same way, 'but we own a house', but when you have to think if you can buy some new clothes, shoes, makeup, it gets old---and so not fun...but yeah, we own a house that I can't decorate right now---wah/wah/:

we eat cereal for dinner, except on Thursday, we use our Chinese coupon and order to watch Survivior.

I have like 5 work shirts and when someone says to me, I like that shirt, I look at them puzzled, like this one, that I wear every Tuesday for the past 4 months?

I have three black suits that all look the same (well, one is a skirt, 2 are pants suits). I have gotten some cheap, nice suits at Marshall's. Last week I got a suit from the limited for $50 total there for pants and blazer! I pick them up when I see them on sale, but I don't have to wear a suit every day--I usually wear sweater sets and black pants or pants and a dress shirt.

Well aren't we a happy bunch

We got an apt and bought a car and I lost my job all in the same 30 days

So we have hot dogs, soups, pasta and freeze meats.

Walbaum had a sale on vanilla pudding (which I love) and it was 10 for $10 that's $.25 a unit so I have that stocked.

Corn was once 5 for $2 so that's stocked

We buy can coke at 3 for $7 and stock it in the closet.

I eat cereal from the 'bag' (the cheap bag version) during the day and Jim has left overs from dinner for work.

Still I have to take my suit in for tailoring today and his stuff in for dry cleaning that's costly, but I have interviews I need to think about.

wow,
we should share our buget secrets..

let's see...i clip coupons...and since we are new in the neighborhood, i got a $10 coupon from King Kullen, and they double $1 coupons, so I saved about $19 at the store the other day. DH cuts pizza coupons and that is a BIG deal in our house, him looking at coupons---

we have trimmed back on junk food big time...

Re: On a Strict Budget...Venting

I OWE the government $$$ - no tax refunds in sight.

FH totalled a car in the summer of 03, and was pretty young and not very knowledgable about buying a new one. His parents insisted that he buy a BRAND new one, so he could be safe (someone explain to me how a gently used car from a private owner isn't safe?) on his long trips to/from college (at the time of the accident.)

In a matter of 3 days after the accident, FFIL had FH spending 20-something Gs that he didn't have on a stupid car, so now he's faced with $400+ monthly car payments. He was SUCH a dummy.

We're both paying off school - I can only work part-time, and my job keeps cutting my hours. I had rice cakes for dinner last night.

for dinner last night DH had leftover egg noodles w/ ketchup (GROSS!).

I owed the GOVT too, they took their share, plus some. I have to call about that!

I used those King Kullen gift certificates, too and for the past few weeks, DH has been saying, when did you buy this? And I say it was from the KK $25 purchase! We are HUGE coupon clippers and although we live in Queens, I often buy things on sale on my lunch hour b/c the grocery stores in Nassau mostly have double coupons. I also used to get a lot of movies at the library instead of renting them.

Not refund for us either, the dreaded marriage penalty did us in
