i'm watching CSI and they were talking about weddings and they siad that the history of a BM is that they acted as a 'bodyguard' for the bride. They used to dress just like the bride to confuse any evil spirits away from the bride... weird right?? anyone know if this is
UPDATE: The cbs website said about the episode:
'The CSI team huddles to piece it together, with Grissom and Sara noting that the original role of bridesmaids was to 'shield the bride against enemies by dressing in similar fashion, thereby confusing and outsmarting the evil spirits on the wedding day.' '

I love CSI....and that is so true. The wedding party was originally to ward off evil spirits by confusing evil spirits so they couldn't distinguish between the Bride and Groom, and the rest of the Wedding Party
