What do you do? FH b day is next Friday (lucky me ) ANYWAY, his mother always has a family party for him on his birthday! I feel like I can never do anything nice for him, because it's all covered. Dinner, cake, everything!! I was wondering if everyone FHs mom till has family parties for their 28 year old son? I was thinking of maybe doing something for him on the 22nd (jus me and him) but I'm not sure when he'll be home....

His family doesn't really make a big deal, although they'll always have cake the day of. If I said I'm going away w/ him or such, she'd probably be upset, however.
If I was you I'd celebrate a day before.

See in my family, we celebrate EVERYONES bday... and FH is now going to be spoiled. But it's about time, since his own family never has had a party or given him a gift on his bday. The rest of the siblings get one, because they throw a fit! But he's too nice to make a big deal about it.. so my mother spoils him instead! I'm pretty sure she buys him more stuff than me...I'm starting to get a complex!

FH and his dad are two days apart, so FMIL has a birthday bbq each year for the both of them. It's family, and FH's closests friends that he's known since grammar school. I usually take my FH out on his birthday and then we drive to NY for the weekend. So sometimes the bbq falls on his actual birthday, sometimes not.

I'd def do something alone with him . I took him to Caroline's Comedy Club and then to a Thai restaraunt in Alphabet city!!!

My FH's day was December 2nd. We went to Atlantic City and I got us a room at the Borgata (He's been dying to stay there). We ate and gambled all weekend. He loved it

FH's birthday is today (hes 26 ) and we are still going out with his mom, grandma, sister and his best friend and girlfriend to cheesecake factory. I usually have cake for him though I dont know what else I can do for him- dont worry when you are married things will be different!

we are one day apart and his family will usually have a cake or go to dinner but they let us be on the day of my bday and his so we can do our thing and then my parents will do something for us and so will his, at another date close to the birthdays

his family has cake and dinner for him at his house- sometimes a few of his close relatives come over.
this year i was so excitd about his gift that i gave it to him a week early along with me making his favorite dinner
the gift, dinner and his moms dinner was enough of a celebration for him.
last year for his 30th i paid for our trip to brussels. after he knew that i was off the hook for any dinner or party

Why don't you take him out to a nice dinner, that is what I usually do - although his mom has a party for him, a night out just the two of you is totally different.

I totally hear ya!!! (been dealing w/ it for 5 years!!!..Can't wait till next year though!!!) I know i sounds nuts, but it makes me nuts!!!

They always do something on Easter for him (yes, it changes every year, but it's when the whole family is together around his birthday). I always take him out myself as close to his birthday as possible.

Eleanor - if you want to do something just you & him for his b-day how about doing it on the 26th??? Most offices are closed to observe the holiday from the day before. This way you don't have to worry about what time he gets home on the 22nd, and you can let his mom do whatever, but you can still do something special for him.

My friend's boyfriend's bday is on Xmas so he always gets screwed - so she celebrates his half birthday on June 25th!! She bakes him half a cake and makes him dinner or takes him out to dinner and gets him a gift. For those of you w/ FH's who have bdays around Xmas, you may want to consider his half birthday. And the best part is that it is a surprise to him every year!! (though I don't know why ...)
