Once you placed an offer, how long did it take for you to hear back?

We placed an offer on a house Sunday morning and were told we'd hear back that evening.

Well, it's Tuesday afternoon and NO word yet!! I figured it would take longer than 1 evening since there were a few other bids, but I thought we'd hear by now.....

I just left a msg for my realtor but wondered what the norm was?

Grrrr, I figured as much.

I haven't heard back yet, but just left a msg for her a little while ago.

I'm a bit pissed at her though - even if a decision hasn't been made, she could have called us and let us know.

I'm afraid to find out though - there were 4 other offers on the house for around the same price, and I wonder if the seller expects us to go into a bidding war? I really hope not...our bid was high enough

perhaps not.. was it just a husband/wife, or is the family involved in the sale? perhaps being that there are other offers in, they are reviewing them before saying anything..

Good luck!!!

it's an older couple that owns that house, but I think the children are the decision makers. They probably are weighing all of their options but if they don't make a decision fast others may just back out and find something else!

teri...do you have a time limit on your bid?

on one place we never found out that we didn't get it - until we heard that it was in contract... (that was about 3 weeks)

on others we found out in days

no, but we did consider adding a time limit in, but decided not too, since we didn't want to come off as too demanding!

I REALLY hope we hear by tomorrow

I'm pretty sure we heard within a day.

the reason i asked about the time limit was b/c if it runs out - I wonder if they just think that you are out of the running...and don't have to tell you either way

hang in there...I so feel your pain...as I was there a month ago!!

Ugh...Teri, that stinks!

We put our first offer on a house, and we didn't hear anything for days...that turned out to be a bad sign The RE agent came back to us w/some BS story about other offers, etc....they were totally trying to pull us into a bidding war. So, we stood firm and gave up on the house.

With the house we ended up buying, I think we heard our offer was accepted within 24 hrs.
Depending upon how long the house has been on the market - the seller should really already know what their 'magic number' is...it really shouldn't take them very long to accept an offer if it's right for them. Good luck!

Claud - I agree - I think they're either waiting for a bidding war to erupt, or have accepted another offer and my agent hasn't told me already.

I think expecting people to wait more than 1-2 days is wrong regardless of the reason!

Erica - I finally left my realtor a msg yesterday afternoon and still no word

oh and just an update: We're still in the running! It's between us and another couple - the seller's lawyer is reviewing the paperwork. never heard of that before with bids but I guess it's not too unusual....

I hope they make a decision SOON!!!
