so as i start the dj search (very preliminary) i was wondering- are any of you using a one man package (a dj/mc in one)?
im really looking for something more low key, so i dont really know if i necessarily need a sep. dj and mc..
thoughts?

Re: one dj?
We will be using a DJ/MC combo. Our reasoning behind this is that we are having a smaller wedding (around 100 people) with a small bridal party, no real big agenda (beyond the regular dances, cake cutting, etc) and we HATE crowd participation dances so we won't need an extra person.
I'd say if you are trying to keep it low key you don't need an extra one either. All the reasons I mentioned are the reasons our DJ (FM Entertainment) told us we would only need one guy.

I haven't booked yet but where ever I do book, I'm going to pick the most basic package, which usually only consist of a dj/mc. I also think that it depends on the size of your wedding and guest list, but one person should be fine.

We are using two but this is what we were told in a nutshell..
you only need one person, however, if you have a lot of 'extras' such as lots of dedications, interactive songs where the DJ will show the guests how to do a dance, dollar dance, garter throw, give away centerpieces etc it is more efficient for you to hire a DJ and MC. It is also efficient if you have parties with large amts of guest >200. This way the DJ can mix the music and the MC does the interactions making everything go smoothly easily.
More than one DJ said that regardless of what you want to have done at the wedding and no matter how many guests, they can do everything with just one person.

Re: one dj?
i had asked this question a few weeks ago. i ultimately decided that i want an 2 person team. i guess it looks more professional. i dunno.
they also say that if you have a smaller wedding and a smaller bridal party, you only need 1 guy.
i dont think i helped too much but i will search for the link

Re: one dj?
I am using a 1 man DJ/MC. I am having a small wedding of about 85ppl. And I also have a small bridal party, so I didn't think adding an additional MC was necessary.
were having approx. 125 guests, and there are 8 ppl in our bridal party (4 girls 4 guys)
i guess it would be ok then..

Re: one dj?
I plan on having one. My crowd is pretty mixed but I know people will be dancing so I don't need someone telling them to get up to dance.

We are having the D.J. and M.C. I personally think a dj and mc are needed, because while the mc is talking the dj handles the music. Our M.C. is going to be walking around the RH hyping up the guests while the dj is playing the music.

Re: one dj?
I haven't began to look for DJ's yet but I think I only want a one man team. Some MC's/DJ's get a little out of control and end up being very obnoxious, so I am trying to avoid that.

Re: one dj?
I'm getting both...we have a bigger crowd, and I actually like the interaction between the MC and the guests...as long as it isn't to in your face...that's why we booked FM Entertainment

Everything everyone said above is correct. If your having a small wedding a 1 man is fine. However, 125 is a decent size which might call for 2. I work for a DJ company and i feel like it's A LOT for a DJ to do both at a wedding, regardless of how good they are.
For example first speaches.... Normally the head table, dias, sweetheard, whatever ur having is on the opposite side of the room from the DJ yet someone the mic needs to handed off to the best man/moh and then eventually back to the mc. Is he supposed to leave the DJ booth and do that or are they people supposed to walk across the dance floor and hand it back to him?
It def can work i just feel like it's a lot for 1 person to handle since weddings have a lot of formalities to get through. Imo, it's not about getting the crowd up really... cuz if it's a good MC/DJ who can control the crowd they'll get up.

Re: one dj?
We're doing one. We have a crowd that will get up no matter what happens, so we thought we'd save the money and put it towards something else. Plus, we don't tend to like the MCs that we've seen...we wanted something more low key, and thought this was the best way.
