One last hoorah..

One last hoorah..

My FH races out at riverhead..i love it..but its costly, especially when he gets stuff done to it.
i know he wants to win so badly, and he hasnt had much luck in the past..and well this year is probably gonna be his last since next year is the wedding and we wanna get a house and all and he wont be able to afford it...
so this is his last hoorah...and he wants to spend a pretty penny on a transmission...and it kinda bothers me, cause we're supposed to be saving....he's still promising to give me $ every week towards the wedding...please, give me some comforting words...

My sister's husband used to race Superpro trucks (I think?) at Riverhead before they moved to North Carolina. He was absolutely nuts about racing! Good luck to your FH, hope he wins!

As long as he is giving you some money, you will be saving. So he spends it on racing, something he really enjoys. That just means he will have to cut back in other areas so he can still put away money. Don't worry. You do need to save to ever be able to buy a house, but you can't kill yourself trying either. You need to live your lives also in order to be happy.

I wish I had some. My FH loves to dump money into his truck. He just bought a $1000 computer for the dashboard and now wants $3,000 rims. I get sooooo mad. I have to make sacrafices so shouldn't he

My fiance is into the same thing. He races and has a very fast car with nitrous

Anyway, Pat has stopped getting things done to the car. He wanted to buy something costly- I forgot what it was and I yelled at him. I told him if I am not going shopping, neither is he. But, if your man promises to not buy anymore for his car, then let him enjoy his last hurrah or you can tell him NO.

My sisters husband is the same way. From watching her, I am sorry to say, but things will be like this the rest of your life. My sister is prego with her second child and they really need to buy a bigger house, and just a few months ago my bro in-law had 5, yes 5, different Mustangs in the driveway at the same time-swapping parts, etc so he could build a new racecar.
My FH and I are into cars too, and he would love to have a racecar, but he realizes we need things like a house before he can do that.
I wish I could be more comforting, and I know you said this is his last hoorah-but make sure it really will be!

Re: One last hoorah..

Ur not alone... My FH put a lot of money into his car. He pimped it all out and now i've been asking him to sell the car. Although i don't want him to we could use the money. So he compromised by selling some of the parts of the car like the old fenders and body kit. He already made quite a lot on it.
I told him that sometimes we have to give things up and that it won't be a permanent thing to have to give up. So maybe ur FH will be able to do it again after the wedding.

I have to say- lucky for me, FH has had the same car for 4 years. Since me- he doesn't pi$$ his money away. I never got that. How can guys just throw away their money on something that depreciates in value immensely? It makes NO sense.

Don't get me wrong- I like to drive around in a nice car. BUT, to buy one every two years when your car is perfectly fine? Makes no sense in my opinion. I plan on keeping mine for a bout five years. And, if it's still good then- I will drive it for a few more.

That's how I feel too. My parents bought my first car so I didnt feel bad trading it in for the car that I have now but I paid for this one so it's going to have to last a LOT longer!

oh wow, that's tough. it's good that you're supportive of his passion, but realistic at the same time. glad he's willing to stop as well, and hope that he wins!!

well, hopefully his dad will pick up the tab on the transmission...but if not...its what he wants to do..and as long as he still helps me a lil with the wedding, ill be okay...he is gonna be sacrificing his passion for me after this year so we can start our lives together, so i guess its the least i can do...ill be supportive and as always, be his cheerleader every saturday night this summer

Re: One last hoorah..

I TOTALLY understand how u feel!!!! FH builds import race cars.. and they are very expensive since he starts out with a shell of a car and does everything u can possibly think to it. Since we booked the RH he has slowed down alot with his 'toy' but hasnt stopped completely.. sometimes i get mad bc its like... we r buying a house in 6 months and getting married in 14 months but as long as he still puts the same amount of money away i cant say anything yaknow???
