ONE LAST POLL AND POST FOR TODAY -- DID YOU EVER CONSIDER ELOPING?
Somebody at work said to me.. why don't you just elope (he mentioned just taking immediate family to Las Vegas or Hawaii) .. we could save thousands of dollars and use it for a home.. and while this is logical.. I never wanted to elope. Not even a thought.

we thought of it but wanted to share this special day with everybody (damn all these people)
logically...yes..a house last a whole lot longer then 12 hrs in a dress and tux

I wanted too but Danielle wanted a big wedding...So that is what we are having. I wanted to go to Vegas and then put all the money we saved in the bank for a house...

We did it!
It was Jim, me and Jannshari in front of a judge at Town Hall. We planned it for the same day as our 'wedding'. It has actually taken a lot of stress off of us. Now it's more like we're just planning a party.

My FH really wanted to elope (maybe not just us, but us on a beach in Jamaica or something with a few close friends and family members). He doesn't like being the center of attention, and thinks it is all a waste of $ that could be going to a house. But, he humors me There are definitely times when I think about it, but I think I would later regret not having a large reception. Hopefully this will be the one time in my life that I have the opportunity!

Same thing with us- but in Hawaii. I even tried to find a rabbi down there to marry us. FH hates being the center of attention. But I knew that although I may regret having the party that I dreamed about since I was a kid.

yes we have. We still dont know why we are doing this whole big wedding thing but its a little late now!!
One of my best friends is eloping next week and I am jealous!!!

I was so against a having a traditional wedding when we first got engaged ..just wasn't into it. My FH was the one who really wanted it, and pushed for it. Of course I did warm up to the idea (look how often I'm on here!).. but yet I still have many moments where I wish we had just ran off and had a private ceremony Ah well ..

FH and I are planning on eloping when we are in Vegas in Sept. We originally wanted to get married in Vegas but our families would really be dissappointed. So we are throwing a wedding next year after saving up for it all.

We are taking immed family only to italy, then doing a reception at home.
It doubled the cost of our wedding LOL
I do get to wear my dress TWICE

I did. Sorta. I brought some people w/ me to to Bermuda. We had a reception when we got back. Best thing I ever did. Everyone said noway but when everyone was there they were sorry for trying to talk me out of it. I say do it!

I think about it all the time. I think about how the only thing I want is to be married to JT. That's it. And I have a fear that a big wedding cheapens what is really going on. Does that make sense? But then I put things into perspective and I say no to eloping because from the other point of view, a big wedding is a celebration of us, not a distraction from us. I don't know, maybe if the wedding was closer, I wouldn't feel like eloping so much. I just want to be married already!

I really really wanted to elope. We had a relatively short engangement, and EVERYONE was driving me nuts. I never wanted the big fairytale wedding, but DH wanted to go the traditional route.
I loved my wedding, but if I had my way it would have been a small ceremony with just close friends & family in England or on a tropical island.
I also considered getting the ceremony over with once we got our marriage license, but DH wanted to wait for the church.
Leave it to me to marry a romantic traditional guy

We kinda did, but still got roped into having a big reception in the fall. He's Israeli and his visa expires soon, so we went to city hall to get the license to file for the greencard... if it was up to me, that would be it... it was soooo intimate, sweet, and romantic and without all the hub-bub around it, it really focused us on the point - US. Not the flowers, the DJ, the hall... all the stuff that simply doesn't matter. But my parents still want a big to-do in the fall, and we have to have yet ANOTHER reception in Israel right after for his friends and family... it never ends

We wanted to elope, but our parents talked us out of it. (It helped that they were paying for everything.)
But I still wish we'd eloped. I can't believe how much money we spent on one day. I'm not comfortable with being the center of attention so I would have preferred just to elope at city hall and take our immediate family out to a great dinner in NYC.
DH now says he's happy we did the whole big wedding thing.
