Just so everyone knows... the movie Monster doestn really have any truth to it.
I just got an e-mail from her (Lee's) best friend (or at least she WAS when she was alive), Dawn Botkins (you can see her in Nick Broomfields documentary, 'the life and death of a serial killer')....
she told me that the only truth to the movie was that she killed 7 men and got executed. The in between is fictional. take that as you will.
her friend is very open, honest and a real sweetheart. i am surprised she got back to me!

SInce i haven't seen the movie i can't really comment about anythign specific...
BUT what friends have told me..there are things in the movie that are factual...I would think MOST of the courtroom scenes are in fact factual since it was video taped!...I think this person is exaggerating....

no, youre right, the courtroom scene is right on. (theres only one, at the end) some things are, but for the most part alot is just guessing you know. Patty Jenkins, the director, cant REALLY know everything that happened. (during the murders, etc) i personally like the movie. as a movie. it definatly has some (if not, alot) of truth to it.... but not everything happened the way it did in the movie. its 'based' on a true story... there are alot of things missing actually, from the movie.... but all in all i personally think they did a great job, with the inof that they did have.... but i gues since it was her best friend, and she knows more, she doesnt like it. i would probably be like that too if a movie was made about my best friend or something.

yea but NOBODY can really know the truth about the murders except Aileen and the dead men!!!! And to be honest I don't believe Aileen..

yeah, i think she did good with the info that she had. alot of what Lee says is truth, alot is lies. 50%/50%

Her account though was that with the first murder, she was attacked and raped, but then she got free and got her gun and shot him. It's not fact, but that's what the movie went with.

Also I recently watched a documentary about her, and I believe her girlfriend probably knew what was going on and did nothing. She was the one who threatened to leave if they didn't have money, so that's why Aileen went out to do what she did. Not an excuse, but certainly didn't help.

she actually WAS raped by the first guy (richard mallory)... but he didnt rape her up her butt with a pole like the movie shows.
they have evidence he raped her, pretty much. photos of the steering wheel that prove she was indeed tied to it (not the door like in the movie)... and he had a string of sex crimes, including being incarcerated for 10 years for rape.
i think he traumatized her and although she was already pretty much crazy, that is (IMO) what made her go off.....
but in general there are loads of things in the movie that dont make sense to true happenins... but thats is why its a movie!!!

yeah, she DEF knew.... in fact, when one of the victims was last seen he was seen with Lee AND Ty!!!!! I think Ty had helped in some of the murders, but thats just my feelings from reading so much about this case.
