One of the worst calls I ever got **UPDATE***

One of the worst calls I ever got **UPDATE***

happend last night. It was from my gyno. He left me a message saying to call him back b/c my test results came back abnormal.

I went into panic mode. I called teh dr back but he was gone. The nurse said that she would have one of the other dr's giveme a call back to discuss. I swear 2 hours felt like a lifetime. Well the dr called me back and the first thing he said was its not cancer. Thank god. He said the pap smear came back a bit abnormal and that my dr would like to do a coloscopy(sp?) just to be sure.

So I am going next week. I did talk to my regular gyno and he said that there is no cancer no HPV, probably a slight irritation or yeast infection.

I know someone once posted about the same thing and could you tell me what to to expect next week. I'm still a bit nervous. Thanks girls.

You'll have a culposcopy, and it's a breeze. They go in and look around with a camera. It feels like a regular pelvic exam. Try not to worry, anything can cause an abnormal result, including a recent period, sexual activity, yeast infection. She said no cancer or HPV so that's a HUGE load off!

Try not to stress!

Don't worry. Everything will be ok. I got that done also last year and I was sooooo scared but everything went smoothly. Afterwards you feel like you have cramps but nothing big. The process itself from my experience was pain less just a little uncomfortable but my Dr says that everyone is different.

head up,,,you'll get through it.

But I would mention to the doctor that next time they leave a message to simply say people give us a call back, not 'your test is abnormal.'

It will be ok, I have had that done before and so did Jen See all the things us women have to deal with. men they have it so good. You will be asked to take more frequent paps until they come back positive over a period of time. You will be fine. Let us know how it goes

Ditto to Shamma's comments...
I've also had this done. I'm starting to feel like I know more and more women who have had this procedure that's it's becoming common.

I have you in my thoughts! Keep us posted!

I had this done when they told me that I had HPV

don't worry- it doesn't really hurt- i too felt a little crampy- but you will be fine.

edited to say- not that you have HPV- but this is standard when you have abnormal paps.

I also have inconclusive paps a lot- which are annoying- because you have to go back & get another one.

I had an PAP come back abnormal from a bacterial infection...so it can be something really simple too!!!

Julybaby - thanks for the forum mail.

Thank you all so much for all your kind words. It really makes me feel better that I can post this and know thatI'm not alone.

Thanks again.

They do a scrape and they take a picture - it can be scary and I understand your fears, but it's probably nothing and like other posters have said, it's becoming almost too common - like it's something the doctors have come up with to bilk more $$$ from the insurance companies. I had it in 1999 and it came back with precancerous cells on my cervix. They did a laser treatment (which sort of sucked) but everything turned out fine. I was more 'afraid' of the procedure than the reality of it.

Good luck!

I had this done also. Unfortunately my colposcopy concluded that I had abnormal cell growth and I had to go in for cyro-therapy (basically they freeze the abnormal cells off your cervix).

The colposcopy wasn't bad, just a bit of pinching (only slightly worse then a pap). The cyrotherapy was major cramping.

Plenty of women have the colposcopy and find out that everythings fine. I'll be hoping you're one of them!

I went through this when i was 20, just month after my grandma died of cancer.

Mine ended up precancerous.. I had to have minor surgery to remove the cells.

It's important to go early and get checked. Im so glad they've given you good news so far, trust me.. you're off to a GREAT start!

Hang in there..

Im sure you'll be fine.

Re: One of the worst calls I ever got

I had this done also b/c a pap came back abnormal. I too had no cancer or HPV. This is the main reason that women are given paps. To catch (if there's anything) early enough so something can be done.

When I had it done, it hurt a lot. But I'm a chicken anytime I go to the gyno. I love my doc but I always feel uncomfortable so I tighten up. Try to relax during the procedure and you'll be fine.

After that I have had NO abnormal paps. So just b/c you had this abnormal pap, doesn't mean you'll always get them.

Good Luck

Re: One of the worst calls I ever got

Jennababy & Julybaby you have FM.

Thanks again for all you support and kind words.

What I keep thinking about is that I have been going to to the gyno for over 7 years every six months. All those times everything was fine. I went right before I got married everything was good. I go back again, now I'm married and then this happens. I guess I just freaked out, which I is normal.

Anyway, I go back next week and I will let you know how everything went.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
