one person enough as DJ/MC or two separate jobs

one person enough as DJ/MC or two separate jobs

Has anyone used one person to do both jobs as dj and mc? I was contemplating using Dominick from Tommy Tunes as both. If anyone has any feedback, it would be much appreciated. We are having approximately 200 people at the wedding, but we don't want a pushy MC or one that is very involved. Thanks!

I guess it depends on what you want. I am having a DJ and an MC. If you want your entertainment to be more subdued I think 1 person should be fine.

My DJ said it depends on the size of your party as well the people you are inviting. Our friends are pretty much the people who love to get up an dance so we opted to just have a dj. Plus we saw him in a showcase and it seemed as though even though he just one person he woudl get the people motivated.

I was thinking about going the route of just a dj as well, but do they still announce everything like the enterances and first dance?

usually a one man dj/mc should be more than capable of making announcements, motivating the crowd and playing the music. sometimes a second mc may be useful to get the crowd more animated, or if you have a large wedding. it's really your personal preference.

I agree, though if you know that an MC is not going to be able to get those up and dancing that just arent going to get up then you can suffice with just 1

for a wedding with 200 people i would go for a seperate dj and mc, but since it seems like you don't want them to say much of anything besides announcements, you should be able to get away with just the one person. the best person to ask about this is the dj/mc you plan on using. they are the experts and have done many weddings both ways.

MY friend had almost 300 at her wedding and just had a DJ and he did a great job! i dont think you NEED an MC. FH wants a dj & MC i am trying to talk him into just having a DJ. plus its usually cheaper!

IMO you need both a dj and mc- one person is going to make the announcements and work w/ m.d. for timing of the party, the other, keep the music playing. I am a perfectionist, and I would be a little nervous if something came up that the md and the mc had to confer about that music might stop playing if there was someone whose particular job that is...also, what happens when he needs a break, if there is only one person?

I had just a DJ - Vinny from High Voltage Sounds, and IMHO he was fabulous and there was no need for an MC. Only you know your guests - are they dancing fools or wall flowers or somewhere inbetween? Dancing fools will dance w/out an MC, wallflowers won't dance with all the alcohol in the world, and the somewhere in betweens usually need the motivation of an MC.

I've actually answered this same question before...

We're having both. FH works for an DJ and entertainment company and he explained it to me like this...

A DJ's main focus really should be the music.

The MC on the other hand is the master of ceremonies - not just the one who gets people to dance, but he's also the pacemaker of the party - the one who makes sure every component of the party is accomplished at the right time. He'll even communicate with the caterer to make sure that everything the entertainment is doing is in line with what time the food comes out.

I'm not sure a DJ could really focus on the music and these other things enought to do either job really well.

I honestly contemplated this same issue.. I wanted two people (DJ/MC) where FH just wanted a DJ.. I am convinced that now we only need a DJ for our wedding.

I'm doing a 2 in one. One of the lead singers would also be the MC.

I am also using Vinny and we are not having an MC...we know our guests and they don't need help getting up. Plus, I don't need someone talking the entire night..I just want to hear the music! We just didn't see the need- just our own personal preference.

Honestly,

from what i've seen at weddings, its always better with two guys....this way you can have one guy focused on the music and the other doing the talking and all that....but i completely agree, i've been to a few weddings with certain LIWedding Vendors where they made the day seem all about them instead of the bride & groom and i deff. don't want that!! I just want a fun party with everyone enjoying themselves...I don't want my MC dancing on the floor actin' all crazy and stuff... lol

We are just having a DJ-we don't want too much interaction. Sometimes I think the MC's just get annoying.

be safe and get two people...while the dj is focused on playing the music, the MC can get your guests partying

we had 200 ppl at our wedding and only had a DJ. we wanted the same thing, someone that can do a bit of both.

I would not have changed a thing.

If its a company that you know of and have seen their work then don't let people talk you into somthing that you don't feel is necessary.

You can tell your MC how active you want him to be. We don't want ours to be interacting with out guests accept to make announcements and we picked an MC who was more in tune with what we want. You can ask the company to view their demos.

I still think you need two people even if you want a laid back MC.

I agree with Darlene. I also used Vinny as DJ/MC. He did a fantastic job and everyone was up dancing the whole night.
