I recently had a conversation with one of my girlfriends and she was inquiring who was walking me down the aisle. I said 'Girl! I'm walking down the aisle by myself! I think it's awesome that a Bride can hold her head up high, and walk down the aisle gracefully to her future hubby!'
I suddenly heard silence on the other end of the phone and then a final 'Oh hell no! I think it's soo much nicer when a Bride is escorted down the aisle.' I chuckled and said 'Gina walked down the aisle by herself when Martin and Gina finally got married on the hit show Martin.' My friend still insisted someone walk me down the aisle. Let's just say we agreed to disagree.
I personally don't feel I need an escort and sometimes us Brides have to switch it up a bit, to make 'new traditions'
So my question to you fellow Brides are, how many of you are actually walking down the aisle by yourself?

I told my parents something similar, I said 'you are not giving me away, I chose this'. My mom was furious, she wants her and my dad to walk me down the aisle. I told her she can walk in front of me.

How ironic you mentioned that as my Mom wasn't too happy as well.
My dad is going to walk with me. It's a traditional thing in me, I guess, plus I think he would like that moment.
I don't think of it as him giving me away so much as him handing me off to FH as if to say, 'Pffft, good luck, she's all yours now.' But I need to joke with myself because I'm a bit of a sappy-moment-phobe.

That's awesome ladies! It is nice when Daddy walks the Bride down the aisle. I'm slowly leaning towards my Mom to walk me down the aisle if I change my mind. We're like Best girlfriends. LOL I'm noticing, even when I watch my marathons of 'Four Weddings,' the mother walking the daughter down the aisle is becoming more popular.

You have to do what makes you happy.
My stepfather and my 17 year old son walked me down. I think my mom was disappointed, but I wanted my son by my side.

This! I dont think of it as him giving me away. I love the tradition of it.

My father is walking me down the aisle. My cousin had her father walk her halfway then walked by herself the rest of the aisle. I think it's a personal preference.

That's awesome. I've also seen where the stepfather walks the bride halfway and then her father walks her the rest of the way, if they are raised by both men.

I just feel I got so much slack for wanting to walk down the aisle by myself. Other family members gave me the 'raised eyebrow' too. LOL I didn't think it was that serious.

I am having a traditional church wedding and my dad will be walking me. I think it is SO awesome that you're going to walk by yourself. I would be too nervous and would need someone next to me haha

I walked down the aisle alone, and I have to say that I never felt happier, more like myself and in control of my own destiny than I did at that moment. It's not for everyone, but if it is really what you want then go for it! People can raise eyebrows all they want...it's your last walk as a single girl - own it.
