One Woman Show & Loving It!

Howdy my fellow Bride Mates!

I recently had a conversation with one of my girlfriends and she was inquiring who was walking me down the aisle. I said 'Girl! I'm walking down the aisle by myself! I think it's awesome that a Bride can hold her head up high, and walk down the aisle gracefully to her future hubby!'

I suddenly heard silence on the other end of the phone and then a final 'Oh hell no! I think it's soo much nicer when a Bride is escorted down the aisle.' I chuckled and said 'Gina walked down the aisle by herself when Martin and Gina finally got married on the hit show Martin.' My friend still insisted someone walk me down the aisle. Let's just say we agreed to disagree.

I personally don't feel I need an escort and sometimes us Brides have to switch it up a bit, to make 'new traditions'

So my question to you fellow Brides are, how many of you are actually walking down the aisle by yourself?

i'm an orphan i have no choice to go at it alone but if my parents were still alive i would have one of them walk me on down :) i feel like no one could ever replace them, and i don't want to ask someone else to do the job.

I really want my mom to walk me down the aisle. She is my hero. She was a single mother and did a wonderful job. She continues to work hard to support her family and if it were not for her I would not be the woman I am today. Since my father is still somewhat in my life and my parents get along; for traditional reasons and because his family will be attending the wedding she would like for him to walk me down the aisle. So I will compromise with her (even though I really do not think he deserves that privilege) and have both of them walk me down the aisle.

I think if you have a good relationship with your parents it is so nice to walk down with them. Up until that moment you say 'I do', they are likely the people who have loved you most in this world. I don't see it as giving you away but it is kind of a rite of passage. There are so many other moments in life when a women can exude strength and indepedance, walking down the aisle doesn't have to be the forum for that. But it's your day and life and most importantly you need to do what will make you happy. But I say if you have a strong bond with your parents you should think about it more. It really is a once in a life time experience that all parents dream of doing for their girls :)

Since my dad is no longer alive, I asked my best friend

That's great!

I walked down the aisle alone, and I have to say that I never felt happier, more like myself and in control of my own destiny than I did at that moment. It's not for everyone, but if it is really what you want then go for it! People can raise eyebrows all they want...it's your last walk as a single girl - own it.

Right on Sistah!

I totally understand the sentiment.

Love this! Mommy should rightfully walk you down the aisle. No questions! Maybe have your Dad walk you half way and then your Mom can finish the walk if you decide to change your mind.

For me it's not about the whole independence thing and I do adore my parents. I just feel it looks just as grand when the bride walks alone as with a parent or close family member. But thanks so much for your advice. I will think about it.

This is also one of my favorite wedding scenes where the bride walks alone. You can skip to 1:41:

I want to walk down the aisle by myself, but my mom basically told me she is walking me down. My father passed away when I was 21 so it's not like another person took his place as a father figure and raised me. I've also been very independent since I've graduated college and I don't feel like anyone is 'giving me away.' I don't want to hurt her my mom's feelings but I really wish I was walking alone.

Aww man. Yeah it gets touchy sometimes when it comes to our parents. I totally understand.

My mom will walk me half way and my dad the rest of the way. It kinda represents my life in my younger years with my mom having me young and alone and with my dad coming in and adopting me and now being able to guide me to my new life with my FH.
