Online Savings Acct

Does anyone have a online savings account. I know that they have a much higher yield but not much else about them. FH and I have gotten some checks for the enagement we'd like to deposit in a joint acct.

TIA!

FH and I have one through HSBC.

Did you have any questions?

You can't do any branch banking, but you can link it to your existing bank accounts and you also get an ATM card for deposits / withdrawals. Linking it to our bank accts was easy for us b/c FH and I already have all of our banking / finances in joint accounts (though not at HSBC). You can transfer between bank accounts (even from another bank) and I think it takes 2-3 days to process. You can make ATM withdrawals up to $1,000 per day. You can also make deposits at ATMs. Your ATM card is NOT a debit card, though.

HTH.

We use ING too. I think the interest is up to 4.5% now. We've paid for most of our invitations with the interest in that account alone. I ING.

I have ING too. 4.5% is great and you can't beat it.

So how do I deposit checks? Put them in my checking and transfer them over?

We both have HSBC checking but ING def has the best rates around. We wouldnt be taking money out frequently. It would be more of a 'big purchases' account.

yes, you have to transfer the checks over from your checking, or savings acct.

Sure you can - HSBC is 5.05%

If ING is offering 4.5% interest, they don't have the best rates around. HSBC and American Express both have online savings accounts at 5.05% interest, and I believe I saw at least one other bank offering this rate as well. Shop around for the best deal for you - check out money availability and look closely at fees, too.

HSBC was the best deal we found for our needs.

Just like with ING, these accounts can be linked to your existing bank account and you can schedule a set amount of money to be transferred with each paycheck (if you want).

i love my ING account. it's good for if you just want something to save and not touch! i put random deposits in there sometimes, but i have a steady amount that is always taken from my chking account every wed. and put there. when we're ready to pay off wedding balance in the next month--we'll just transfer it all out!

With HSBC, you get an ATM card and can make deposits of checks at any HSBC ATM.

We both have savings accounts at ING DIRECT.. the interest is HIGH, once went up to like 5.2%!!!! We've made SO MUCH $$$ from ING so far! Ive only had an account with them since February of this year and Ive made about $1k in interest alone!

Is ING a variable rate savings account? I need to read up on that.

I am assuming variable means it changes according to the market.

Kara do you know if HSBC's is like that off hand?

I have several accounts with ING. No problems with them at all. There are no branches to do your banking though. Their website (ingdirect) is informative, you should check it out.

Yes its unfortunatly variable, but since ive joined it only went down once. I started out making 3.75% and it kept going up and up.. it got up to 5.2% but now is down to like 4.8 now or something..

Yes, variable means it changes according to the market fluctuations. I get an email notification every time my savings account interest rate increases.

Citibank e-savings account is 5.00% and I love it. I do everything on-line and you can even deposit and withdraw from any ATM from that account.

I just checked and it also appears to be variable... I think all of the high yield savings accounts are.

You probably can't go wrong with any of them - I think they'll all try to at least keep up with each other since they are all competing with one another!
