my mom brought this up a few weeks ago.. how i have a nasty habbit of going CRAZZZYY when im opening gifts infront of people, and i like 1 gft over the other.. i just go 'om gomg omg thank you!!' then when i open another gift, thats not as 'big' or nice.. im like ' aww thank you!!!' since i was veryy youngg..

my sister thinks the opening gifts part of the shower is the worst, so she suggest everything should be wrapped clear so who ever wants to see the gifts can see them. i disagree with her & think its fun to open gifts at the shower.
in your case maybe the clear wrap would work out well so you don't really have to react. but if you want to open your gifts i say just try to exert the same amount of enthusiasm for everything.
i don't think this is something you can teach.

Barb - 1st off you always crack me up.
I hate to open gifts infront of people and I also have the same problem. My facial expression says it all regardless of what comes out of my mouth. I try so hard to hold that smile....but it just doesn't work.
Just do the oooh and ahhh when you open gifts to everything and think about something else you love like your Manolo shoes,that should work.

unfortunately, a lot of people want to watch the bride opening the gift...we tried not opening gifts at my sis shower and all my aunts and cousins were like WHATTTTTTTTT!?!?!?!
People like to see what other people got you and what not.....kind of annoying!! The clear wrapping is in now too so that may be an option also!

if your gifts are coming off your registry, you may be more likely to react the same to all of them.... i'd think maybe you won't be so surprised by the gift because you already know what you're getting lol that might eliminate the OMG OMG OMG reaction... or at least thats what im thinking for me

I have the same issue. I have this oh thanks I use when I don't like something. My shower will be interesting but if everyone gets me things off my registry then I will be happy and it will be real excitement.

Best advice? Have a drink before you open them. Then you'll be tearing up as you open each gift because you just love everything and everyone. It worked with my mom on Christmas!!

yea i still get gifts, but now they are like kitchen towels and shyt. im getting nothing this thanksgiving cuz my mom found out im going to the bahamas. lol
my bro told her he and his wife are taking her to teh parade.. so she told me shes going..and her tone of voice.. she felt guilty.. cuz they all come over for the holidays at my house. lol.. but the only reason why my bro told her buot the parade is cuz i told him im not hosting this yr cuz ill be away. but i didnt want my mom to knwo til after my shower so she doesnt bish.
wellllll since she felt guilty at 1st for planning to go to the parade.. i broke the news to her that i wont be in town anywayyy.. so she didnt really say much.

i don't think this is something you can teach.
i think instead of clear wrap maybe u can suggest going 'green' and not having any wrapping at all, then people wont be offended about the clear wrapping paper request. People like to watch the brides and mommies to be open their presents.
And barb they arent really looking at your face, tehy're just oohing and aahing about the gifts. i would say go nuts like u usually do for every gift!

and then move it along...the faster you open gifts, the faster you can rock that big ribbon/bow hat some one will be obligated to make you.

me too! hate it.. at my friends shower we even put on her invites CLEAR wrap or dont wrap we made a cute saying.. nobody listened all the older folks want to see you open the gift. I told my BMs hand the gift to me fast and move on the the next one!
