Toss bouquet or not?

Re: Opinion

I am tossing my bouquet. I know that some brides don't do it anymore, but I think it is a nice thing. I have 2 younger sisters and several younger cousins, so I am looking forward to it!

Re: Opinion

The main reason we are not is because 3 of my best friends are single, and only 2 work friends are dating somenone. My single friends don't want me to do it, I think they feel bad enough that they don't have dates to bring.

I gave the bouqet to my aunt who was the woman married longest in the room..48 years!! she deserved it.. and she loved it...

Re: Opinion

I'm not doing it. I know that when I was a single guest at weddings I always feared the bouquet toss (and tried to hide to avoid it!) so.... I thought it wouldn't be right for me to have one LOL.

I will probably do it. Its a tradition and a bit of fun. The only time I ever feel uncomfortable about getting up to catch it is when they do the garter thing. Who wants to be touched by a complete stranger?

I'm not doing it. I used to hate people pressuring me to go out there for the toss too.

Re: Opinion

We are not doing either the garter or the bo-k toss. There will be so few singles at our wedding, but even if there weren't we would not have done it. I am either going to give my mom the bo-k that my florist is making or we are going to do the generation dance and give it to the couple who has been married the longest.

I think its a matter of personal preference

Doing it

I am totally doing it, Most of my close friends are married, but I know there will be enough singles there. I think people miss it when its not done, it traditionally, and I am sticking with it, It is fun and thats what we want at the wedding fun. I dont think it matters to singles if you are dating someone or not, I always got up there for the bouquet toss (when I was single, dating and engaged) - never caught it either. At my last friends wedding she directly tossed it to someone specific, and we thought that was pathetic, if you have someone you want to give it to DONT CALL ALL THE SINGLE GIRLS up there for Nothing.

I think I will toss it. I guess it's traditional and it seems like everything I'm doing for this wedding is leaning more towards the traditional.

I think we will toss the garter as well, however I know I am not going to do that 'show' where I'm sitting on a chair in the middle of the room and they play this music and have my husband look under my dress and take the garter. I will not under any circumstances do that! I will take it off and have him throw it.

I don't think I will have the girl who catches the bouqet dance with the guy that caught the garter unless they happen to already be a couple.

Re: Doing it

NOT doing it, that is my least favorite part at a wedding, I usually try to hide or leave the room when I am a guest at a wedding and they call all the 'single' girls up! I agree with SonicStef, the worst part is some stranger putting this garter on another stranger with everyone watching, why would I want to put my guests through that!!!! It is a personal preference though.

Not doing it. It just isn't me.

Re: Opinion

We also chose NOT to do the bouquet or garter toss. I think it depends on how you feel about it, and the status of your guests. Most of our guests will be married, there are few who are single, so we chose to go with the anniversary dance instead where the couple married the longest will get the bouquet, garter, and a bottle of champagne.

No to the bouquet toss. I have only a few single people at the wedding. If I was younger (I am 32) and had lots of single friends I would do it.

Not doing it. We don't have many single women left.

Re: Opinion

We didn't do the bouquet toss or garter throw. It just isn't our style. What we did instead was to get the mike at that point from the band and say a few words to our guests for coming, and to thank our parents and friends for their help and support. I then passed-on my bouquet to my younger sister and maid of honor. We then had the band play Dido's thank-you song for our parents and bridal party. It was very sweet and we got lots of compliments on it.

I know what you guys mean about getting scared as a single at the wedding but it is a wedding and I feel that everyone nowadays keeps taking out parts of a wedding which identify it as a wedding. I think it's a tradition so I am definetly doing it!

not doing it...anniversary dance instead.

but I think if I were getting married at a church/temple, it would be nice to toss it into the crowd as you are leaving for the reception!

no garter!!

Re: Opinion

I tossed mine from the church steps - aimed for my cousin (who wanted me to throw it her way) totally missed and my 12yr old cousin got it instead. We didnt make a big production out of it but it was fun. I didnt do the garter thing.

Re: Opinion

There was no question on the bouquet/garter for us. We absolutely were not doing it. It may be tradition, but there are some traditions in life I don't agree with, and my husband respects my feelings. My personal feeling is I don't like the 'show' it is made into, and while some people find it funny, I never did .. and I was also one of those who tried to hide or simply refused to go out when pressured.

I also remember going to weddings as a kid .. I would always want to run out there to catch the bouquet, and luckily I never did, because when I saw and remembered how the rest of the 'tradition' went, I was always mortified .. like was previously said about a strangers hands!

Maybe I should lighten up, but I found it much more meaningful to do the 'Anniversary Dance' and honor the longest married couple with my bouquet then to follow some 'tradition' that I feel is outdated. (Of course, I also don't see the thrill in getting/giving lingerie at the Bridal Shower - it's just too personal for my taste).

I like the ideas here for simply tossing the bouquet. It is a nice change. There are no rules to this .. you can do a toss without the 'show.'
