Opinion - gifts from my shower

Opinion - gifts from my shower

I received 2 gifts for my shower that I am struggling with a bit and not sure how to handle it.

1) FH's godmother got us a unity candle - its plain and white but came in a really pretty holder. I actually already MADE our unity candle and put so much work into it. Can I use my candle on her holder or do I have to use the one she gave me?

2) My late grandmother's sister gave me a necklace that was my grandmother's and that she wants me to wear on the day of. It was very touching because I was very close with my grandmother, and she really wrote the sweetest things in her card. The thing is, it will look horrible with my dress. Its a beautiful necklace, it just needs to be cleaned up, but its like a brooch with flowers in it and its very large. My Mother says I have to wear it. .. and I want to do SOMETHING with it, I just don't think I can wear it as my necklace. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do with it other than wear it as my necklace?

Or if you think I'm just being a little biatchy and I should get over myself, you can tell me that too!

I can definately understand why you are struggling with the gifts- as brides, we spend a lot of time invisioning our wedding & exactly how it will be.

If your grandmother's necklace will not work with your dress, could you have it changed into a bracelet or something else thats not as eye catching? that way you would wear it and keep everyone happy but it wouldnt be in the way?

the candle hmmm, I would use yours & maybe have hers at the rh and try and incorporate it into something special there. hth

can you wrap the necklace around your bouquet? Or carry it in your purse?

The unity candle - use yours at the church and I agree with the PP - place it at the RH somehow...

I would use the candle that you worked so hard on and use the holder she gave you. I'm sure she would understand if you had already made one yourself. As for the necklace, maybe you can sort of hang it on your bo-k? Almost like a bo-k charm? I don't think you should feel guilted into wearing something you don't want to wear. Yes, it's a very sweet gift and it has a lot of meaning to you, but it doesn't mean you can't incorporate it in some other way. People have to understand that it's your day and you want things your way. HTH!

The necklace in your bouquet is a great idea. Leave it to Jenn.

And as for the unity candle - can you use the one from the godmother on the placecard table or something???

maybe you can take it to a jeweler and have them make it into something you can wear in you hair, without the chain of course!

for the candle...is the one you made the same base color? if so you can use your candle on her stand and just say you decorated the one she gave you???

It is the same base color, I was kind of thinking of doing this. . . there is nothing wrong with that I don't think. . .

im dreading things like this for my shower it already happened once so far - i was going to buy gorgeous toasting flutes and a cake cutting set - and then i couldnt b/c my FH aunt got us toasting flutes that are engraved and look like they are from 1995 - i dont think anyone would notice if we didnt use them, but i felt bad - i have a feeling more things like this are going to happen but if its something that will be noticed im going with what i have - i want to pick my own unity candle and own jewelry - the toasting flutes i let go b/c nobody will see them, and they arent going to be in any pics or anything - but i def wouldnt want to wear jewelry that i didnt pick out or have to use the unity candle after i made my own special one - so i see where you are coming from 100%
