Opinion on July 4th.............

I am really considerring booking a site for Sunday evening July 4th, 2004 form 7-12 AM.
Pros.............1)Everyone will have off Monday July 5th for the holiday.
2)It gives family that is flying in an extra day to get her since it will be on Sunday.

Cons............1) It is a hoilday weekend
2) Is 7-12 too late for a Sunday even if people have the next day off?
3) Traffic on LI may be tough

However I love the place and this is the only way to afford it...........OPINIONS?????

go for it, just send the STD cards about 6 months before to make sure that people knwo to save the weekend.

Keep in mind ALOT of people do not have off Monday....I work for a very large, well known firm and we don't.

(just something to think about since I would probably think twice if I had to work)

But most of your family and close friends will take off the day after if you choose that date.

I say GO FOR IT!

I am getting married 7/3/04...but I did consider July 4th as well.

Just be sure to give people plenty of notice, especially if you have travelers.

Good luck!!!

july 4th is a cool date for a wedding. just be careful - don't assume everybody has the next day off (i don't). that would be the only negative in my book.

do you have a lot of out-of-towners? if so a sunday wedding is good, since they don't have to take that friday off, hopefully they can take the monday off.

if you really love the site, then go for it! just realize that people may need to leave early since it's so late on a sunday.

good luck!!!

Its your day!! I'm sure it will be fine since everyone has off the next day, plus they will getting the invites a head of time to make arangements! As far as traffic goes u might have to plan the church a hour or two a head, thats what I'm doing for mine Good Luck

Hey that's my date!!!!
I am planning long distance with 50% of my guests coming from out of town.
Here's why we decided...
1. most businesses that follow the Federal Holidays, give their employees off on the Monday.
2. make it a long weekend! Rehearsal dinner on Friday, so you have all day Saturday for relaxing.
The guys want to catch a baseball game, I would like to have my bridal luncheon then.
3. as Alina said, get those STD's out early! my out of towners can't wait to spend their 4th of July vacation on LI!
4. FIREWORKS, BABY!!! hehe...hey, you never know!

But do whatever you want sweetie, not matter what, it will be great!

Go for it. A lot of people, if not off already, will welcome an excuse to take one.

I have been ABSOLUTELY driving myself nuts trying to decide on this!!! Thank you soooo much for your opinions....maybe it is much more doable than I thought!

i just thought of something else - how far out on LI are you planning on? too far (like hamptons) and you're guests are going to hit MAJOR traffic trying to get home on sunday/monday.

I'm having my wedding on the 4th this year. We had a lot of reasons why it was right for us, including that it was a Friday this year, and it's my favorite holiday.

It's at Sans Souci (western Nassau) and we sent out STDs a year in advance. We got a lot of positive feedback, a lot of our OOT guests turned it into a week long NYC vacation.

My family tends to vacation memorial day & labor day weekends, so it wasn't a big deal to plan it for the 4th.

Everyone who wants to be there, will be there. However, many times airlines have frequent flyer blackout dates over holiday weekends. I would just take that into consideration if I had a lot of out of town guests.

do it. im having my wedding the weekend of the 4th this year and if monday had been off instead of friday, i would have done a sunday reception.

Love it. I went to a wedding last year on 7-3-02 and had off the next day. I had a great time.

Re: Opinion on July 4th.............

well, I am biased, since I'm getting married on the 4th this year! I'd say go for it, but make sure you get those save the dates out early (since that way people don't make other plans). I had to send mine out really, really early (1.5 years) b/c a lot of my friends are drs in residency programs and they needed to request the time off last June!! On the plus side, everybody's been really psyched about spending the holiday with us! We haven't really heard anything about interfering with family plans since everyone knew so far in advance.

Be warned though, a lot of my vendors made comments about guests not coming to our wedding b/c it's a holiday weekend - just ignore them! Maybe that's true for some people, but most of our friends and family are excited to have a wedding/holiday weekend on LI!

Re: Opinion on July 4th.............

I hate to say it but my friend looked into booking that day - but NONE of her friends or family had it off. Many businesses and companies do not give a monday off if sunday is a holiday.

Otherwise that would be the only downside (traffic you can work around)

You should look into July 3rd as well. Even though it's a Saturday, it's still a holiday weekend, they may give you a good price.

I say go for it. No matter what day and time I would be at any of my friends wedding.

Re: Opinion on July 4th.............

i so wanted 7/4...b/c it is a big family holiday for us anyway...but my top 2 choices were booked 1 1/2 years in advanced...oh well...it worked out for me...since there was a heatwave this past year...and my grandfathers funeral...but I regress...

I love the idea...and you can do so much with it...I think even if people don't have off...they could possibly request it..

and to the ladies who don't have off...it is a federal holiday...so you must either have off...or be compensated in some way...another day off or overtime...FYI
