Opinions?!?!

I need some help!!! MY FH and I have limited funds. Of course like every woman I've had my idea of how I wanted my wedding to be, but cash is an issue. Here's my dilemma, we have a couple of options. FH suggested we go to Justice of the peace. Then I came up with going to Justice of the Peace on 9-10-09, then on our 2 yr anniversary we could renew our vows and have a big shindig with all our family and friends. Or we can wait till 9-10-11 and have it then. I opened my mouth, but now I feel like I would be shortchanging myself by doing JOP, and then having the big party later. HELP!!!

Re: Opinions?!?!

You are not shortchanging yourself..I know 2 people who did this..you just have to make sure you have the party if you want it.

Also, I had one friend get married by a JOP and then had her wedding at a Knight of Columbus..it was a really great wedding. This on in particular included the food (buffet style), DJ and open bar.

You do whatever makes you happy.

I'd wait...I kinda feel like waiting til 11 will be more fulfilling then JOP and the party years later

I agree. You'll have the time to plan and save money and have all your excitement at once!

I would wait. But at the end, its your decision and you have to do what will make you happy.

I would wait...well I did wait. AS you can see from my date I have a ways to go and we did that because we are on limited funds also. We toyed with going to the justice of the peace but then I felt I would be loosing out. I felt that I would regret not having the wedding that I want. 2011 isnt that far away. There are girls on here getting married at the end of 2011 and have started planning already

I think it depends on what you want. If you're going to feel like you're shortchanging yourself, just wait until 2011! It'll come fast lol

Re: Opinions?!?!

You know, its a hard decison. Really, I think it comes down to are you okay with not being 'legaly married' until 2011. If the purpose of going to the JOP was because you really wanted to be actually married by 2009, then I would say do it because after all, a wedding is about the marriage, shouldnt be about the party. And then, you could start planning right after the JOP, and have a nice 2 years to get your money together and do everything on your time. If you were only thinking about going to the JOP though because you had already planned to get married sooner and now you just have that closer date in your head but you are really ok with waiting to get married in 2011, then I would say wait, if it was only for the sake of keeping with the original date.

Also, if you dont live together and are waiting to get married to live together, I know myself that I would be very anxious and would go to the JOP and then plan the wedding.

You could still have another ceremony like you said.

I would wait or do a simple party...IDK your exact financial situation but id imagine right now any venue with an opening for this Sept. would give you a sick deal...maybe you could look into that?

Hi. My FH wanted to go to the JOP as well which I didn't want. I wanted something a little special. I found a planner in the city, ulitmate USA weddings. They do everything for you for a low cost at various places in the city. We are using them for our ceremony. We are going to have it in central park. They take care of the officiant, hair, makeup, photograpy, video, limo and flowers. They have different packages which are pretty cheap. This allows you to have it small but still do something special.

In the long run we ended up adding a big party last minute. It's just a suggestion. Also another suggestion, by adding the party last minute, I got a great deal because they just wanted to book it for that night.

Good luck with everything.
