Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

My sister wants to give us a Jack and Jill shower, but I feel like it will seem more like an engagement party than a 'just the girls' event. Plus, I don't know if I really want to open lingerie in front of other people's husbands, my uncles etc.!!

Looking to hear other girls' experiences!!

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

i like the traditonal girls only shower, but that's my opinion. i'd feel funny opening girlie stuff in front of guys too, plus are they really interested in these things? i think not lol

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

I think Jack and Jill are more like engagement parties as well...but a friend of mine went to one and said the invite said wrap all presents in clear wrap...so they didn't waste time unwrapping...

kind of takes the fun out of a shower...

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

My FSILs are from MA and up there Jack and Jill showers are very common. When they asked me 'When is your Jack and Jill' I said very proudly, 'NEVER! I have waited 31 years for my bridal shower and don't plan on sharing it '
Also, guys have NO idea what a bridal shower even is. It is not a beer and pretzel party. They would be soooo bored looking at china and pots and crystal frames. Plus the guest list would have been out of control if I had to have guys too. That is what an e-party is for.

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

I agree, I think most men would be bored by the shower. Mine is this weekend and when I told my FH that I wanted him to come pick me up at the end so he could say hello and help carry the presents home, he was like 'do I have to?'
Anyway, thats jmo, but I think you should have whatever it is that you want.

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

I am planning my LI wedding from Boston, and I have attended a few Jack and Jill showers in MA. Most of the ones that I have attended have been more like engagement parties - food, dj, and the bride/groom did not open presents in the presence of the guests.
I have also attended a few Jack and Jills that are more like traditional showers (gifts opened in front of guests, no music, etc) and I have to say that the grooms looked pretty unhappy and would have been much more excited to watch a sporting event than unwrap the gravy boat from their china set

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

I think Jack and Jills can be a lot of fun if it done right - no frilly girly stuff, no opening presents (which I dread no matter what), more of a fun party.

I would have much preferred this to a typical shower but the decision was not up to me.

Re: Opinions about 'Jack and Jill' showers..

I think they are fun if they are very casual and not very shower like. No shower games no gift opening etc. We recently went to one that was a traditional shower except the guys were there and my husband said 'the guy' is now officially in the Mens Hall of Shame for putting his friends through this.
