So I just got engaged last week and we really want a fall 2014 wedding.....should I focus on finding the venue or planning a spring engagement party first? I don't think I can do them both at the same time!

find a venue 1st. try and do all your vendors quickly, i called a videographer for 12/6/14 and they were booked already!!!

I totally agree with these ladies, number one of my list was finding the venue first. Now that we've booked a few vendors I'll focus on the engagement party.

Wow I would have never thought that almost 2 years from now was already booking up! Thanks ladies for the quick advice.....now I have to get FH on board with checking out some venues. He definitely doesn't think we need to start yet....he already said 'relax we have plenty of time'

lol my fiance said the same so i called, did the research and told him if you want to loose a good deal, you do the research and haggle and make the calls and let me tell you he changed his tune real quick looked at the places and gave up the money.... lol good luck!! :)

I definitely agree with the other ladies. I booked my venue in April of 2012 for my May 2014 wedding. They go fast! And if you book sooner rather than later, you'll most likely get 2013 prices instead of 2014 prices.

In retrospect I wish we booked our venue first, and then booked our e-party. I think after realizing how much the wedding will cost, we wouldn't have planned such a large engagement party.

I'd def book the venue first. Engagement party doesn't need quite as much planning, but you want to make sure you book your dream venue before it's unavailable!

I guess I'm the only one that had my engagement party first! We weren't sure when we wanted to get married but knew it was going to be a while. We also wanted to celebrate our engagement and not so close to our actual wedding date. We had our E-party on December 6th and we're looking at venues now. So far, there are still a LOT of openings.

We booked our engagement party first. Ideally we wanted to have the venue booked before the new year but FH works for ConEd & he was working crazy hours/OT from Hurrican Sandy so we really just started our search for a venue. I'd like to have it booked by the end of Feb. the latest.

venue first because I found that the big decisions were easier to make than all small party decisions. favors, colors, decor, design etc.

Venue definately first..i got engaged on Dec 21 2012 and i booked for june 28 2014..my place didnt have an evening wedding available on that day so we are doing an aternoon one and we are fine with that..
when i was speaking to vendors they asked what year some people are booking for 2015 already..i thought that was crazy but guess not!

definitely venue! We got engaged 12/13/12... booked our venue for 12/13/14 on 1/13/13 :)

apparently I'm bigger on the # 13 than I originally thought :)
